• Monitor with NO Speakers connected to PS3 Help!

Hi, I just purchased a monitor for my brother so he could play his PS3 Slim and use his computer at the same time. However, a problem came up when we were hooking up the PS3 to the monitor. The problem was that there was no 3.5mm female audio jack in the monitor and his speakers has a 3.5mm male jack. So the problem is that my brother has a speaker with a 3.5mm male jack, a PS3 with an HDMI cable, and a monitor with no speakers. I can only get the video working but no audio (because there is no 3.5mm female audio port in the monitor). Is there a way to get the speakers playing from the PS3? Thanks!
Well the problem is through an HDMI output, you're getting digital audio signals. Your speakers there are going to take analog signal. Aside from that problem, you need some way of having the audio separate from the rest of the HDMI cable, so that you could utilize it. In short, no, not happening. Return the monitor, buy a small HDTV. It's not worth the effort/damn near impossible to do what you want.
See if there a dongle you plug into the back of the ps3 that has component connectors or something like I have for my xbox. Like this guy for the xbox: http://www.amazon.com/Hdmi-Cable-Adapter-Xbox-360/dp/B001S5CCF2

Old Xbox 360 doesn't have HDMI port. Does the newer one?
PS3 uses a standard HDMI cable, unlike the Xbox 360.
Xbox uses a standard hdmi too..... Just the adapter plugs into the back of the xbox aswell, allowing two audio signals to be passed. Edit: Heres how to do it for ps3 -Hook up the HDMI wire from the back of your PS3 to the back of your TV. -Take the RCA Composite wires that came with the PS3 and hook it up to the back of your PS3 as well. -Take the White and Red wires of the RCA Composite cables and hook those up to a component to 3.5mm adapter. Next time I'm just going to leave it to someone who actually knows what they're doing with one.
I have the PS3 Slim so there's no RCA composite on the back of it. Thanks for helping though :), appreciated it. However, there is a Digital Optical (TOSLink) jack on the back of it...

Ahhh, thank you so much, that helped alot. With a bit more research, I came to this: http://www.amazon.com/Plated-Female-Y-Cable-Composite-Playstation-3/dp/B004W9P3B6/ref=sr_1_8?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1326862934&sr=1-8 This is the same thing, correct? Since it has an RCA female to 3.5mm male, I can plug it into my brother's speakers. Thank you! I hope this works :D.

But make sure to tell the ps3 which audio source, check my previous post.
