That's a very poor argument considering this can add a lot to gameplay. Exploring is a big part of Minecraft and this can get you quickly from place to place.

The actual game mechanics should always be top priority for a game, story and theme are secondary.

why not have flight with something that fits with the theme, that way you can get the best of both worlds. Mo' monsters mod has a flyable pegasus for example
