The Northern Sea Route Administration has so far received 89 applications to use the Northern Sea Route (NSR). 54 vessels have so far been given permission to sail along the route, the administration’s web site reads. All the vessels will not sail the whole route between Europe and Russia, some of them will only be working on the western part of the route from Dudinka to Murmansk.
It's quite fascinating really. The Arctic is now full of commercial shipping, something that has never happened before. http://barentsobserver.com/en/business/2013/06/preparing-record-season-northern-sea-route-06-06
This isn't exactly a good thing, you know. But I suppose finding a use out of a bad situation is somewhat okay. As long as the vessels don't contribute to polluting the Arctic I guess this is okay.

However, Mr Jevons might grace us with his paradox again in this instance.
It'd be really cool to be part of an Arctic shipping vessel crew
I think it'd be neat to be out in the middle of the ocean and just see ice. I'm not sure what it looks like up there, but judging by the picture provided I imagine a route surrounded by ice. But no matter where I find it intriguing to be in the middle of the ocean with no end in sight.
Do they have internet on those ships If they do sign me up
