Applebee’s Overnight Social Media Meltdown: A Photo Essay
51 replies, posted
A waitress at a St. Louis Applebee’s lost her job for posting online the receipt upon which a pastor had declined to leave a tip, with a snarky note saying she gave God 10 percent.
After her dinner on Jan. 25, Pastor Alois Bell crossed out the automatic 18 percent tip charged for parties of more than eight. “I give God 10% why do you get 18,” she wrote above her signature.
Employee Chelsea Welch — a colleague of the stiffed server — took a picture of the receipt and uploaded it to the online site Reddit. She subsequently lost her job, an Applebee’s spokesman confirmed to TheSmokingGun.com, for violating a customer’s privacy.
I sort of agree with the firing they could have at least covered up their own details.
I don't expect any better from Applebee's because it's an absolutely terrible restaurant chain.
Now I can feel even better about never going to Applebee's, I guess.
what privacy? did the thing have a name or card # on it?
what privacy? did the thing have a name or card # on it?
Yes
You guys seem to forget that this bitch posted some innocent man info online, i think it is right she was fired.

I have a more pleasant time with friends at fast-food places like Burger King and McDonald's than Applebee's.

if she had properly blacked all personal info, she would've been fine. I post shit all the time from Subway
I sort of agree with the firing they could have at least covered up their own details.
All that was showing was the customer's name, and the price of their meal.
The deal people have with that was that Applebee's had posted someone else's note expressing thanks to Applebee's on the back of a receipt (complete with the customer's name at the bottom) just two weeks prior to this event, then tried to cover it up by deleting it.
So basically, they are just being hypocritical asses.
As a side note, I really wish it wasn't required to not post the whole article anymore. It makes it even easier for people to miss parts of the article.
nothing with personal info yhoig

I don't see any personal info on the original receipt in question.

Unless it's the price of the meal that's considered personal...?
I find it funny when a company commits social suicide. Censoring comments that points out you are wrong is a great way to lose customers.
What a bitch. Gives us all a bad image.
If anything I'd over tip or give them all the money in my wallet. Shows how much of a pastor she is when she holds on to worldy things like it would crush her life. Even more to add a bewildering comment.
The waiter would have kept the job if she wasn't so cheap.
Shitty thing for the pastor to do, but totally unprofessional way of handling the situation on the servers part.

The waiter would have kept his/her job if she/he didn't post the receipt on the internet. This isn't the cunt pastors fault.

To be honest, when I saw that receipt on reddit before this news biz went down, I couldn't even read that signature. It just looks like a scribble, and another scribble beginning with B.
Wasn't this exact same news posted a few days back?
I still don't see why people feel sorry for her, she leaked the direct name of the person out to be made a fool of. Granted what he did was off tone, but you can be the better person and deal with it.
What is there at Applebee's that even costs $35? Did she eat two steaks?

Applebee's posted a positive receipt with someone's name on it two weeks ago.
Here is what they posted:

If this didn't happen she wouldn't have a leg to stand on, but Applebee's facebook page did it themselves two weeks before the incident, and now they are trying to cover that up.
she basically started a fucking internet witchunt with her picture. she potentially broke applebee's privacy policy which is a pretty big contractual breach.
basically yea she deserved to be fired. maybe next time she should be more thoughtful.

It was a name, and it was a woman.

Did you read the new article? Applebee's broke there own 'privacy policy' themselves two weeks prior with a positive receipt.

Well, if she would even at least give out a dollar instead of holding unto it, this whole fiasco would have been avoided. It's because on person's greed that has caused this great uproar.
Wouldn't it have looked better if instead of
I give God 10% why do you get 18
She wrote instead
I give God 10%; with his blessings I pass unto you
Its just a dick to hold on on tips in general, even more to base it upon God. It just irks me because I don't even act that way. Now those waitresses will remember the people of God as money-hungry assholes that got them fired for the rest of their lives. You affect people indirectly whether you like it or not
Did you read the new article? Applebee's broke there own 'privacy policy' themselves two weeks prior with a positive receipt.
so it's alright to violate everyone's privacy because you already violated one person's? the person who runs the applebee's facebook should have been fired as well.

A christian that truly takes the bible to heart and follows the spirit rather than the letter would tip the waitress more.

Reading is great, mmkay?
No, seriously, reading is great. The part you missed was even quoted in the OP. GG.
What is there at Applebee's that even costs $35? Did she eat two steaks?
Possibly. Or a bunch of beer on the side? She was part of a large party with a ~$200 bill, which they decided to split amongst the 8 of them in an attempt to evade the auto-gratuity. That, in and of itself, isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I'd probably do that too. but I'd also leave a similarly sized tip anyway...providing the service was satisfactory. I'd be avoiding the autogratuity so I can exercise my right to not tip for shit service, not to be an asshole.
What made the pastor a dick was her little note and refusal to tip at all. If the service is good, by all means, leave a good amount. 15-20% is just fine if the service is good.
so it's alright to violate everyone's privacy because you already violated one person's? the person who runs the applebee's facebook should have been fired as well.
The fact is that Applebee's is trying to cover that one up, instead of firing the facebook person.
The fact is that Applebee's is trying to cover that one up, instead of firing the facebook person.
that point is irrelevant to whether the waiter should have been fired.
that point is irrelevant to whether the waiter should have been fired.
Except she shouldn't have been. Reprimanded, yes. But not fired. She didn't do anything that I would consider grounds for termination. The personal info on that receipt was just a first and last name, nothing an identity thief can do anything with and information anyone can get via Freedom of Information Act if they have...say...your license plate number. A reprimand of some sort is more than sufficient IMO.
but maybe I'm an oddball in believing that the punishment should fit the crime?
I've tipped waitresses 20% before. The minimum I ever give is 15%. I feel bad when I have no cash in my wallet (I only pull cash out to give tips, cards ftw). I try to find an ATM and go back to the resturant or area to tip the person.
