• Ancient skeletal remains shed new light on evolution
A team of researchers working in South Africa has unearthed what they believe are the remains of a previously unknown species predating modern humans. They recently discovered a couple of partial skeletons -- an adult female and a juvenile male -- that are nearly 2 million years old. The two are believed to have been significantly taller and potentially stronger than "Lucy," the roughly 3 million year old skeleton discovered in Ethiopia in 1974. Known as "Australopithecus sediba," the pair may provide a window into a previously little-defined period in human evolution. "Australopithecus" means "southern ape," the researchers noted. "Sediba" refers to a "natural spring" or "fountain" in Sotho, a local language in South Africa.
Source : http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/science/04/08/hominid.discovery.skeleton/

That has got to be the weirdest goddamn humanlike skull I have ever seen.
woah. WOAH.
what the christ [editline]11:24PM[/editline] source?
Wasn't that the shape of skull seen in that indiana jones movie?
Where would the neck be located? It would have to be really thick and positioned awkwardly to support that kind of skull.

I don't get why they mark numbers on it. Surely writing it on some paper and putting it next to it would be just as good?
Weren't there near-identical skulls like this found in South America that were far younger and proven to be caused by "head-binding" throughout juvenile growth until adult-hood?
Source doesn't have the same skull pictures...
I don't get why they mark numbers on it. Surely writing it on some paper and putting it next to it would be just as good?
Yeah, seeing that written on the skull bothered me quite a lot.
God, I can't think of what kind of horrible, sick, and twisted human-like abomination that skull was inside of.
Honestly, haven't they considered the fact that it might just be a mutant? I can't imagine anything looking like that being very human-like.
Weren't there near-identical skulls like this found in South America that were far younger and proven to be caused by "head-binding" throughout juvenile growth until adult-hood?
Yeah, that's what I thought. In fact I think I've seen that exact same skull on something talking about the head bindings.
OP posted the wrong skull.
Great. More 'evidence' for my biology class to shove in my face to tell me I used to be a monkey
Skull in question.
What the what.
Great. More 'evidence' for my biology class to shove in my face to tell me I used to be a monkey
Both evolution and intelligent design can agree that at some point, 50% of you was a sperm shooting out of your father's dick. Is that better?
Am I the only one who began to think of Assassin's Creed II ([sp]The Ones Who Came Before[/sp])?
Great. More 'evidence' for my biology class to shove in my face to tell me I used to be a monkey
We were never related to "monkeys", We are hominids, so we are more related to great apes.
Am I the only one who began to think of Assassin's Creed II ([sp]The Ones Who Came Before[/sp])?
That's a video game.
Great. More 'evidence' for my biology class to shove in my face to tell me I used to be a monkey
this is hardly "evidence" anyway [editline]05:06PM[/editline]
That's a video game.
Really? I wasn't aware that Assassin's Creed 2 was a video game. Thanks for pointing that out for all of us.
