So my mom gave me her friends iphone to fix. I use to be deep into the ipod touch modding stuff so I figured I could fix it.
Whenever I try to restore I get this.

I tried to shift restore to iphone 3gs firmware version 3.0 and I get the same thing. I tried going offline but I got nothing. I read around online and all I got was people talking about apple denying people trying to downgrade to 3.1 from 3.2, but how does that stop me from restoring legitimately to the most current firmware?
The problem that I have to "fix" is that its stuck in DFU, and its stuck in DFU because it cannot restore. I don't there is anything actually broken on the phone. It looks brand new.

I tried putting my AT&T sim chip in, but that didnt seem to help.
