Its next project is Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - New 'N' Tasty, a remake of the first Oddworld title. In the letter posted on its official site the JAW team makes its case, saying it is both passionate about the game and positioned to do it justice. Dear Mr Kojima, We read with great excitement on VG247 that you were looking for a studio to work with to develop a Metal Gear Solid remake using the Fox Engine, that your team has been hard at work creating. We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons: 1) We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves. 2) Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material. 3) We really, really want to do it. For evidence of our abilities, please check out not only the HD treatment of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, released on PlayStation3, VITA and PC, but the current re-creation of Abe's Oddysee, titled Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty. We eagerly await your response. Love and cuddles, The JAW Team. The letter is in response to reports stating Kojima wanted both Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 to be remade on FOX Engine with updated mechanics, and is in the processes of selecting a studio to undertake the project.
BOOM
The question is: can they do it? They are very good, but are they capable of doing somethig like this? I hope they are. It would make a pretty cool team-up, but I fear that they might not be up to the task.
Kojima, you know you want to talk to them and see if they are up to the challenge. Go on. Do it.
I think that if they get the licence to make the game I assume they'll use the engine to make another oddworld game as well.

I dunno man, the HD remakes of the oddworld games were pretty sloppily made, no deadlines, terrible support, optimization practically unheard of, etc

Also New N Tasty is more of an example of what they would do with MGS1 since that's a total remake of all assets and engine.
Seems like a bit of a dickhead publicity stunt now
I wouldn't trust the Oddworld devs with it. It's just a fact that they can't get anything done within a realistic timeframe and there are usually massive amounts of bugs that never get resolved. [editline]27th June 2013[/editline] To put it into prospective, They haven't made an original game in over half a decade and the current game they're developing has been in development for over twelve years. [editline]27th June 2013[/editline] The last game they made above a small scale arcade release was in 2005. [editline]27th June 2013[/editline] I love the worlds they create and they're really creative guys, they're just extremely shitty developers and they barely get any support because they haven't been able to deliver since the PS1 days.
Hoping they won't go overboard with remaking dem old classics. Personally, I'd prefer they stuck to static cameras in New n' Tasty. The dynamic camera just doesn't feel right... Remake, not reimagine plz.
Erm, I'm pretty sure what Kojima meant were the original MSX games, not MGS1.
Erm, I'm pretty sure what Kojima meant were the original MSX games, not MGS1.
Everything I've seen says "Metal Gear Solid" so I'm not sure what you're basing that on.
NOOOOOOOOOO don't remake it ffs or if you are at least do Metal gear 1 and Metal gear 2 : solid snake first!!!!!!!!!
Why not all four (or five you want to do Snake Eater as well) and the PSP/Vita ones as well while at it?
please no, the HD remakes for the Gamecube were pretty awful already.

I don't know why you would instantly assume it's entirely the developers fault in an industry where publishers are actively being bullies towards anyone who isn't making AAA games that will net them millions upon millions. [editline]27th June 2013[/editline]
please no, the HD remakes for the Gamecube were pretty awful already.
Primarily due to Kojima hiring on a specific jap director whose job literally was to make the cutscenes as wacky as possible. [editline]27th June 2013[/editline]
Hoping they won't go overboard with remaking dem old classics. Personally, I'd prefer they stuck to static cameras in New n' Tasty. You can have problems with publishers and I respect some issues that come with it. However, I do not respect constantly hyping up things in order to stay relevant when in fact you haven't made a game in eight years or nine years all while receiving funding from your other ventures. When the only releases your putting out are hd ports of your previous games, I expect them to at least run properly and not take over a year and a half to fix and give basic things like resolutions over 1024x768. (strangers wrath, munches odyssey)
please no, the HD remakes for the Gamecube were pretty awful already.
that means literally nothing though just because one hd remake was shit doesn't mean that every single one following it will also be shit
Insert burp and fart jokes and "Hellos" all around in the remake and I may actually buy it.

JAW are an UK dev team that AFAIK don't have the any of the original devs that OI had, OI just gave all the Oddworld assets to them so they could do the ports and remakes.
It's mutually interchangeable to be honest. They both have have decade long projects that haven't gotten anywhere and the last real game they made was Strangers Wrath.
I just want Kojima to walk into an office, pick up a phone, slowly dial a number as the camera circles him, then it zooms in on his mouth and he utters 2 words... "DOO ITTO"
Scene cuts to the CEO of Just Add Water as he utters his response... "HELLO OKEY"

They're two different companies. [editline]28th June 2013[/editline] "I hate Valve for making Battlefield 3. EA published L4D2 so I guess that means they're mutually interchangable ahuyick"
lol this joke was blown way out of proportion, JAW said basically the same thing to oddworld inhabitants and that's how they got working on the hd remakes. Also
"To clarify again @jawltd will not be working on a MGS title, we are perfectly happy with Oddworld :) thank you for all the love however."
Taken from Stewart Gilray twitter.
Strangers Wrath is an awesome game and the HD remake is really quite good from my experience with it
