Basically what the title said Let's hope if it's really good or just a gimmick Available at 160-200$/€
There are reviews?
Oh god take my money.
Showed this to my gf last night, told her I was getting it for her for Christmas. She came.
There are reviews?
Just some personal blogs. But from what I've heard, this pen can be used in any kind of paper, unlike the previous attempts (who needed an expensive kind of paper to be used)
wawawiwa
There has not been a sexier thing in history. God. Damn.
Except it has an average of 0.5mm of margin of error.
Finally! I have waited so long for something like this, well there was some pen that "recorded" what you drew, however this seems better. I will definitely buy this. (After i look into it some more of course.)
Except it has an average of 0.5mm of margin of error.
What, were you going to draw blueprints for a nuclear reactor?
Can't wait!
Except it has an average of 0.5mm of margin of error.
Just a convenient translation for US users this is roughly 3.10685596 × 10-7 miles.
Great sarcasm detection.
huh? i was making a joke.
Great sarcasm detection.
Great sarcasm detection. And to think I thought you were serious with the 0.5 mm's. Anyway, I hope it actually detects what you ink in properly, so that your paper is full but you can only see half of the lines once you actually import it into your computer. That's what i'd be worried about. Also wonder if it has pressure sensitivity and how that's gonna work out, because it look's like it's actually ink. Now I gotta save up for even more stuff. Damn me and my consumerism!
-snip-
Nyaa is getting me this for christmas  we're going to review it for facepunch
It looks like an advancement to the same technology used for the IBM TransNote. $200 though? That sounds like one hell of a cheap Wacom product.
$200 though? That sounds like one hell of a cheap Wacom product.
Seems ideal for someone like me who might want to dabble in sketching now and then but not ready enough to get a more serious product.
My teacher has one of these pens
I'm excited for how awesome developments in this direction are looking, but I don't get the hype surrounding this product to be honest. It looks too limiting, and while it's a great piece of advertising, the few moments of actual use that are shown look pretty poor. When the person is drawing, the paper is clearly bowing and bending due to the contours created by the device being clipped underneath. Every time they make a stroke, it's getting tugged downwards by the dent you're making in the uneven drawing surface. I don't like to be a killjoy, maybe that isn't much of an issue, but it really stood out to me when I saw this in Creative Work.
this thing looks really overrated. if you're gonna use a tablet, use a tablet. if you're gonna draw on paper, draw on paper. there's no need for this thing. [editline]4th September 2011[/editline] also agree with above

The pressure is recorded through the pens built in sensors. So no matter how the paper crinkles horizontally it stays the same if you clip it on properly. But let's not guess, we'll see how it works out once it's released.

Also, this is obviously a niche device for digitizing sketches and designs on the go, to me it's a far more dynamic and practical device than lugging around a scanner.
I'm also guessing it's good for drawing while on the bus but avoiding the bad quality scanners make. So you avoid the step of inking in on the pc over the scanned sketch while still keeping a nice crisp line quality.

[editline]4th September 2011[/editline] also agree with above
It's sort of in between, I can definitely see the use for it since it offers a lot more functionality when transferring from a paper sketch to a scanned image. To me it's just a convenient little tool that doesn't replace a tablet. Of course, this wouldn't be true if it costed more than it does, it's the low price that justifies its in between design
The ink cartridges are going to be a bummer.
yeah :(
The ink cartridges are going to be a bummer.

[editline]4th September 2011[/editline] also agree with above
it's clearly been made with concept artists and designers in mind i reckon. people who might get inspiration on the fly and be drawing 24/7, on the bus, on their lunch breaks, on the train, sitting in the park. i dunno. it's about making the process of transferring these hundreds of sketched ideas into a digital format quicker and easier, rather than scanning and inking or reproducing everything from scratch. seems pretty damn useful to me
If it's not expensive, I'd love to have one. Otherwise, no.
If it's not expensive, I'd love to have one. Otherwise, no.
~170 € So pretty cheap.
