George R. R. Martin Offers His Own Theater to Show The Interview Source: Esquire ____________ "Come to Santa Fe, Seth, we'll show your film for you."
The five biggest movie chains in America might have backed out of showing The Interview, but there's at least one theater owner who's not afraid of the Guardians of Peace: George R. R. Martin. The Game of Thrones author owns the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and announced he'd be happy to screen the North Korea-skewering comedy any time, no matter if it's actually any good or not. Posting on his LiveJournal (current mood: a "pissed off" alien avatar), Martin railed against the theater chains for "declining to show a film because Kim Jong-un objects to being mocked," and against Sony for canceling the movie's theatrical release, even though many independent cinemas would still show the movie. "The level of corporate cowardice here astonishes me. It's a good thing these guys weren't around when Charlie Chaplin made THE GREAT DICTATOR. If Kim Jong-Un scares them, Adolf Hitler would have had them shitting in their smallclothes." Martin wrapped up his post by inviting Seth Rogen and James Franco to host their premiere in sunny New Mexico instead of any big-name theater: "Come to Santa Fe, Seth, we'll show your film for you." In the meantime, fans looking to watch a movie that mocks North Korea can head to the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas/Fort Worth, which will be screening Trey Parker and Matt Stone's Team America: World Police instead.
I fucking love this guy.
He's a good dude
Now it's almost certain that someone will die...
"The level of corporate cowardice here astonishes me. It's a good thing these guys weren't around when Charlie Chaplin made THE GREAT DICTATOR. If Kim Jong-Un scares them, Adolf Hitler would have had them shitting in their smallclothes."
Yes. YES. THANK YOU, GRRM.
As much as I appreciate his generosity, wouldn't this make it REAL easy for North Korea or who the fuck ever to carry out a terror attack? I thought part of the reason it was impossible was because tons of theaters would be premiering the interview. Seems alot more likely with just one theater.

Although whatever happened to America standing up for it's freedoms instead of quaking in its boots like a bitch?

America, land of the brave. Except when it comes to showing a movie.

If North Korea did something terrible, GRRM, Seth Rogen, etc., should in no way be held responsible.
BREAKING NEWS: North Korea declares war against George R. R. Martin!
Now it's almost certain that someone will die...
Everyone watched the movie. It was a huge success and everyone's talking about it still in the cinema. Suddenly GRRM makes a gesture and Aegukka starts playing. Everyone is very confused until a dozen highly trained North Korean assassins emerge from the shadows and kill everyone.

A comedy movie at that. Seriously, how fucked up in the head do you have to be?
But New Mexico is too far for me :(
Yes. YES. THANK YOU, GRRM.
uhm Charlie Chaplin had to fund The Great Dictator himself because no one wanted trouble................. also Charlie Chaplin said,
"Had I known of the actual horrors of the German concentration camps, I could not have made The Great Dictator, I could not have made fun of the homicidal insanity of the Nazis."
Now imagine only having to keep an eye on 10 of them.
uhm Charlie Chaplin had to fund The Great Dictator himself because no one wanted trouble.................
He means if these producers that are afraid to show The Onterview were around back then, Adolf Hitler would have scared then into not showing The Great Dictator
BREAKING NEWS: North Korea declares war against George R. R. Martin!
Breaking News: A new crazy dictator is now in control of North Korea
He means if these producers that are afraid to show The Onterview were around back then, Adolf Hitler would have scared then into not showing The Great Dictator
I thought it was meant to insult them, saying that if they can show The Great Dictator against Hitler, then The Interview shouldn't be a problem. When that movie wouldn't have been made and shown anyway if it wasn't for private funding and ignorance of the situation.

The threats he gets for showing the movie is probably a small fraction of what he gets for writing Game of Thrones..
Noooo, if he gets killed who will finish writing a song of ice and fire trilogy!
Noooo, if he gets killed who will finish writing a song of ice and fire trilogy!
If he gets killed, fans will kill the killers faster than they can run away..
"The level of corporate cowardice here astonishes me. It's a good thing these guys weren't around when Charlie Chaplin made THE GREAT DICTATOR. Either way, I'm glad George is stepping up and offering to premiere the movie there. He's a good dude.
Paramount pictures is forbidding showings of Team America now.
This is America.. Why do we care what NK thinks...
This is America.. Why do we care what NK thinks...
Sony is not america
Paramount pictures is forbidding showings of Team America now.
That'd be cool if George showed both The Interview and TA:WP back-to-back with intermission.
America, land of the brave. Except when it comes to showing a movie.
Except it was a single Japanese corporation which made the decision and the president himself said it shouldn't have happened. What does the national anthem have to do with US policy? Do you use this metric for other nations? Is Germany failing because it doesn't control the Memel River anymore? This is a bizarre criticism.
I'm happy he isn't scared to show the movie but the comparison of Franco's and Rogen's comedy to Chaplin's work made me laugh.
