Serious Request is a yearly project by Dutch radio station 3FM in which they collect money for projects of the Red Cross. The project was first held in 2004. During the project, three DJs live in a house of glass for six days (5 days in 2004) without eating anything, instead drinking special juice to stay fit.
Everything is in euros.
Last year the dutch goverment raised the money collected by the dutch people (€4.1 Million) to €7.113.447. The amount is still increasing due to ongoing smaller events in the rest of the country.
This year, due to the economic crisis, the government did not help, but the dutch people still managed to break last years record by about €20k to €7.135.707.
The money goes to the Red Cross, whom will help orphans that lost their parents due to aids survive.
Other countries also held a similar charity event, but for varying reasons. Good job everyone!

I need to aid the aids
That was awesome of them. Its not the childrens fault that they are orphans. They deserve a good life.
This is fantastic, where do I donate?

Serious Request is serious business.
Really though, that's great, people helping other people is always nice but helping the seriously disadvantaged it even better.
7 euros? Fantastic!
4.1 Million euro's? that's at least a trillion dollars!
My sister's friend died of AIDs last month, but that's irrelevant because he wasn't an orphan nor a parent.
Anyhow these guys are pretty nice, hope that charity works out.
I was at the Belgian one, Music For Life :)
Lets hope the African militia enjoy their christmas shipment of weapons.

Different comma usage on money is so funny :frog: .
Do they have to give it to the children? Cant they evenly give it out to every Facepunch member?

Didn't we get 5.020.500 euro or something? I wasn't there, I just remember the guys on tv losing their shit while I was having dinner.
I know this will instantly make me look like a asshole but,
Causes like this seem like such wastes of money.
I wonder how much the whole event around it cost (artists, set-up) etc...
It's just one big marketing campaign where eventually more resources are wasted than gained.

Most of the artists are doing it for free (and giving up stuff from themselves for auctioning), and the set-up is payed by the radio station itself. Most of the other stuff comes from sponsors who get a nice logo showing on national TV. All of the money goes directly to the Red Cross's bank account

.'s are for decimalisation.
,'s are for separating numbers when they have 4 or more digits.
