I've always wondered why team sports are SUCH a big deal with people my age (16). Don't get me wrong, i'm no fat smelly neckbeard, I mountain bike, jog, lift weights etc. but why is it TEAM sports that are such a big deal? Everyone knows the score of the last soccer/basketball/football/hockey/baseball game. To me it just sounds like a lot of names and numbers. "Hey remember when Jose Andernez did blah blah blah?" "Oh yeah that was a great game last night!" And it's the same with playing sports, all the rules seem like a huge tangled mess and when the ball comes to me I never know what to do. It even gets to the point where girls won't go out with a guy that doesn't play team sports. It seems like in order to be normal you have to play or watch team sports. This is super frustrating, anyone else feel this way??
Sports are fun. They're like physical videogames. It gives people something to talk about.
Just join a team, they'll teach you.
Someone needs to invent more interesting sports, like 3D football with multiple fields stacked on top of each other, or basketball played with balls made of glass.
I totally understand why people love them, I just don't feel that way myself.
I semi-agree. Team sports are dumb in the aspect of how amped people get on it and think they're part of it when they hold no stake other than that they like the Raiders or what not. Sure you can like the game and enjoy watching it w/e, but why take ownership and be so angry at people when they like a different team for another arbitrary reason? However, I don't think your problem of girls not dating you is because you don't like/play team sports. I've never liked watching any nor followed them, never really played them, and I'm in a perfectly happy relationship that I've been in for almost 2 years and am well on my way to a Masters program. So, you don't need them to be normal; just be confident that you don't like them and don't give a crap when other people are amazed that you don't like them.

Can't imagine why glass basketballs would hurt anyone or anything.
You're not old enough to understand.

What if you're on the team you're "amped" for?
What if you're on the team you're "amped" for?
That's fine. I just mean the people walking around in NFL jerseys talking shit and getting pissed at other people and saying "OMG MY TEAM WON" or "my team lost because they played like crap or its whoever's fault". Most of those people can't play for shit compared to the people they're blaming/angry at/hating on and they don't have any connection to the team other than an arbitrary feeling that they "like" that team so it's therefore somehow "theirs".
It's not that i don't like physical activities i just don't like the pressure of a team and i like to do things at my own pace.
I mean, if you like video games, it's sort of like that to sports fans. Except.... with sports.
Then don't worry about it. You'll find people that like individual sports too or are able to get over the fact that you don't have the same feelings toward the same sports.
It really depends on the sport to me. Personally, I think American Football is so fucking boring to watch or play, however, I think that Baseball can be quite fun to play. I also have an interest in Boxing.
Your opinion will probably change a little bit once you're out of high school.

Sports brings people and countries together, its as easy as that
Thanks guys, i really needed to vent.
I personally do not enjoy sports that much. My father thinks it's the essence of being a human.
Sports are fun and a lot of people are just generally interested in them. Just like people like video games too. Some people are just naturally better at sports and understanding team sport rules where some like personal sports or other entertainment or hobbies better.
Sports are great for your health too if you participate and hell... its fun. Super Bowl Sunday is one of my favorite days of the year because we get chips and salsa, hot wings, soda, other chips and tons of other things. The opportunities liking a sport is great because of the events you can attended.
Sports demonstrate the athletic ability of an individual, and the individual efforts that combine to make a team.
Competition is part of human nature, and people enjoy seeing others compete against each other. Why did we have gladiator matches in ancient times, or hell even rap-offs in modern day? It's the essence of excitement and adrenaline that incites us to watch sports.
I'm not a big fan of watching sports games myself, but I can see the value of why others would.
I like playing some sports, but watching other people play is boring as fuck so I pay no interest in that
Sports are fine. Some people take them too seriously, though. And they cause a lot of bullshit. People being able to get scholarships because of their ability to play a sport? Bullshit.

Korea must've misunderstand.
american football is the greatest
when commercials aren't on
Yes just because others get excited over something you don't like makes it overrated.

except for superbowl commercials.
i play soccer everyday because it's fun. I sure as hell will never play for a team though, it's no fun on teams anymore. I'd rather get together with some people who want to play and have a fun time rather than, "FUCK YOU, I SCORED." which is what happens at my cousins games.
I play varsity football.
It's great, the atmosphere is amazing every Friday night. Lining up right before the game, hearing the band playing, the crowd cheering, it really gets you pumped up.
American football is one of the best team sport experiences ever (in America at least)
It's a good way to use excess energy, like in 1984. Not that I'm saying sports are somehow a conspiracy or anything. Sports are a good way to bond, meet new people, and can actually be physically addictive, but at least it's healthy.

There's a slight similarity between playing sports and playing in a school band, orchestra, or choir. It gets you involved, gives you something to do that's not partying, studying, reading, or playing video games.
Fuck yeah, soccer orchestra and i used to play varsity for football like bluesky. never again
Sports are all about the bonding. If you've never played a competitive team sport you won't get it. When you're on the field with your team working your ass off for a hard earned victory, you get a ~connection~ with the other players
I can kind of understand why some people like sports (strategy, the excitement, etc) but I find the reality of them really boring. Football, for instance, not only seems rather monotonous, but then there's like ten minute breaks between anything that happens and there's a bunch of commercial breaks in there. It's like
...AND THAT GUY TACKLED THAT GUY AFTER HE TOOK TWO STEPS WITH THE FOOTBALL! Now we'll show a replay of that, show a quick clip of the players randomly meandering around the field afterwards, go to a commercial break, discuss what happened before the commercial break, have another commercial break, and then do it all over again!
They're way underrated on online forums such as this one.
