Me and my friends decided to go visit the Portage Glacier up here in Alaska for some reason and an old 30+ year old abandon Military Complex, straight out'a STALKER... Pics and captions coming up ...

We left around 10AM and headed out to the mountains/coast, we had planned on three other friends coming, but two ditched and one got sick so eh.

Shite mountain shot on the way there.

After shimmying a white-water river, which was fun as hell, we came to this smaller stream/creak/etc. it was still wet, and we still had to jump across tiny rocks to keep dry, but it was a lot safer than daring the earlier river. You can also see part of the glacier near the top.

A few more minutes up that tiny stream we found ourself at flat land! Well walkable land at least. The last time we went here there weren't nearly as many plants though...

A bit more walking led us to the mouth of one of the giant rivers, we were going to visit a cave we had found last time, but it melted :( That part was sad, but we pressed on!

This was looking back from where we started, if you look at the horizon and squint your eyes you can almost see where we parked.

After a while of walking and slipping on ice we stopped at a rock patch and I got some shots of my friends on pride rock, then went up to join them.

That's only a small fraction of the upper glacier...

Those tiny lines in the snow are people...

Random ice near the entrance on our way back.

After another hour of driver/waiting at the toll booth/$12 we arrived out our next destination, the military complex.

The place was flooded pretty bad, I think only the third floor of the 4 + Roof had dry spots.

People who do graffiti pick the weirdest spots.

Just hanging out on the roof.

We could see the whole "town"

The only reason I don't have a shit ton of pictures is how dark this place was, I'm surprised we could even see anything in the basement, my phone isn't cut out for these kinds of dark pictures.

Anyways, not a very wordy thread but I thought I'd help share my fun experience with you guys, through pictures at least. Hope you guys enjoy'd the boring picture book of a ride.
Damn that looks chill
That's so cool.
dinosaurs don't say d.w.d.
you've obviously never lived in alaska then
I love threads like these :D
Oh shit I've been there. When I was in Alaska I went on some little Ice Glacier seeing boat there.
Yeah, seems to be a tourist heavy spot for some reason. We were the only alaskan's there, everyone else were easy to identify tourists.
When I saw the title I instantly thought of Penumbra. Urban Exploration sounds pretty cool.

OT
where is that specifically OP? looks like a cool place might want to check it out myself some time...
The Glacier is the Portage Glacier up near the entrance to the Wittier tunnel, and the Abandon Complex is up in the hills right outside the town of Wittier, you can see it pretty well right when you get into town.
the dragon thing should say rrerr

that is awesome. we have no places here to do that :(
nice pictures
Wish I had friends like that because that's fucking awesome
Doesn't help I live in ohio though, the most exciting thing we have here is a dead GM plant and a hill

I know how you feel, there is literally nothing cool close to my hometown, anything cool is two hours away at least from me, which is why I can only do things like this every so often. :(
Anything cool for me is at least 5-6 hours away and even then its "familiar" and not that exciting to me (stuff like the smokey mountains, which are more like hills than mountains)

Looks like a pretty cool urbex expedition there.
Whoa that looks awesome
Post more for the love of god!
Adventuuuuure!
I'm surprised you didn't get attacked by zombies.
I really like glaciers. They're the best natural formation of water.

You have no idea how worried of zombies I was at the time.
I also happen to be a big baby who's afraid of the dark.
what phone camera do you have ?
HTC Topaz, awesome phone.
You should invest in a better camera for your future adventures.
The phone is good, but not good enough.
