are acer's new products still junk like their old stuff?

for a while a lot of acer products had build quality comparable to shoddy dell's and low end HP systems. but acer said months ago that they're trying to turn their company around and focus on producing better quality products for a higher price, and they signified this new era with a logo redesign.
the first line of products meant to reach the new company goal is the Iconia line.
the iconia product line consists of a dual screen laptop, a windows 7 running tablet, and a honeycomb tablet.
the product i'm interested in is the iconia a500 honeycomb tablet. Compared to the asus transformer it has better cameras, better speakers, a camera flash and a full usb 2.0 port.
it runs on ddr3 ram but the transformer uses an undisclosed ram type.
the only downside is that it costs $450 over the transformer's $399.
i have no need for the transformer's keyboard
i really like the features of the a500 but im not sure of the brand behind the tablet...
here is their website:

rate tool if you think acer is good, rate zing if you think acer stinks
See if you can find a store near you that has one on display. That way you can get a feel for it before you spend all that money on it.
My parents have an Acer notebook and once I stripped all the bloatware off it for them, it was nice. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with their hardware.
When you say "like their old stuff" that doesn't make sense to me.
Way back in the early 90s, they had amazing things. We bought our first Acer desktop for about $3,000... Thing was a great computer with great build quality.
When you say old stuff you probably mean stuff made in the last 5 years?
I bought an Acer aspire 5100 about 5 years ago, never again, its an utter piece of shit and its falling to pieces after not that much use at all.
Yeah I'm tempted at looking at their laptops. I know they aren't the best and I never recommended them (I usually do the opposite), but they have good hardware.
Their new stuff is a lot better. I know a few people who had some old Acer laptops, which were pretty mediocre.
My old Acer Aspire One was a fairly nice computer and was pretty easy to mod. Build quality could've been a bit better, though it was a low-priced netbook.
I'm still seeing ACER laptops (core 2 stuff) come in to get their hinges replaced. They are about as bad as the hinges in HP's DV laptops.
I bought an acer laptop 2 years ago, and have sworn never to buy anything from them again. The thing is falling apart. 2 of the 3 USB ports don't work, the headphone jack is busted, the speakers are slowly failing and the screen is coming loose and often turns to a mess of static. I've had the hinges fixed 2 or 3 times, but it always comes back. Despite regularly cleaning the fan, it still overheats all the time.
So, I don't trust them at all, and suggest you avoid their products.
Also just for a tip avoid gateway.
I bought my monitor from acer, dead pixel(green) and color offset issue.
returned it got another of the same model it's worked perfect had it for a year
Ive had my Acer 6935g laptop for 2-3 years now, the only thing that has gone wrong with it is that the battery is now broke (happened 2weeks ago) I haven't had any other issues with it such as hinges, and it seems quite well built as it took a accidental fall while the laptop was open and didn't take any damage. I also have owned a Acer 23" screen which had a yellow leak that look liked it has pissed itself inside the screen within a year.
I still have my Acer Travelmate 4230 for 5+ years now and use it as my primary laptop. All I did was upgrade the RAM and clean it out every once in a long while, and it's still pretty solid for basic things like internet browsing or work. Battery is still of course dead, and it still has that huge dent on the side when I accidentally dropped it once.
But even from back then Acer seem pretty darn solid.
today there was an advert for their new pad.
except, they kept using it in really impractical locations, at least to me
for example there was one in a club, one up a cliff-face. silly locations for a 8 inch piece of tech.
They say their ancient stuff like those pentium M's with 512 MB or less ram was good. hard to believe.
I remember when laptops used to have p4's in them. Good times...
It must be the Aspires. I had one (second-hand) that died in it's 2nd year. The HDD went bad and it always ran extremely hot.
On the other hand, my friend loves his 2 year old Acer desktop which after upping the GPU to a 5770 and 4GB RAM it runs like a dream.

That hurts.
Also I have never owned a acer but I remember my grandmother had one and it ran ME, I think you could guess why I associate acer with pain.

I have an Aspire X1200 :ohdear: I got it in 08 my dad thought it was a gaming computer because it had 3.75 GB RAM.
Aspire 5532 reporting in: It's got the best keyboard I've used on a laptop, and I absolutely love it. That being said, I'd recommend something more powerful if you're using it for anything more than just web browsing and such, but it's a great little laptop.
My parents bought an acer laptop like 4 years ago, the keyboard is all sticky, like someone poured coke all over it. The touchpad is quite shit too, constantly goes unresponsive and tracks like a bitch.
I can't say more than that though as I never use it myself, but it's enough to make me very cautious about acer products.
I've generally had bad experiences with Acer.
The only reason my old Acer is still running is because I changed the PSU and GPU.
I know a lot of people still having problems with Acer - so i'd prefer other Manufacturers...

Touchpad on my parent's notebook is fine.

Gateway = Acer

My Acer notebook (bought it last summer) has been holding up very well. No complaints thus far.
I have an acer netbook and it's awesome. Only complaints are glossy screen (like most laptops :|) and the bloatware but you can just reinstall windows anyways. I sometimes forget because I run ubuntu on it but when I got it it was full of shit.
I got an Aspire One in March. I've been using it as a development server, which is ridiculous, but it works. I don't have any complaints. Battery life is good, keyboard layout is perfect for a netbook, the wi-fi card picks up a great signal, and the touchpad actually works (unlike my old Acer laptop, which has a completely fucking useless touchpad)
Using my first and only Acer product right now. It's a netbook, and I'm quite satisfied with it, haven't had any problems yet.
Except that the webcam sensitivity is shit, the build quality is decent.
Got myself an Acer travelmate laptop last year. Had to send it in for repair about 2 weeks ago because of bad overheating. Got it picked up by UPS the same day I booked it in, got it returned roughly a week after that and it was fixed very nicely without any of that stereotypical customer support bollocks.
Got an Acer Aspire 5310 here with double the RAM (2GB instead of 1GB), bumped up CPU (Core2Duo T5600 @ 1.8GHz instead of a Celeron M 530 @ 1.6GHz Single Core) and a Western Digital Scorpio Black HDD. The only thing which is screwed is the battery, which I get just under 50 minutes out of.
Overall for something I paid £300 for in January 2008 (plus around £150 in upgrades), I'm very happy with it.
