The social news-sharing site Reddit has a knack for exposing people and situations. The latest topic of discussion to generate controversy is a series of tweets from people who did not know that the sinking of the Titanic was a real historical event.
Apparently, an entire generation of people associate "Titanic" with the Hollywood blockbuster starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Here is the disambiguation for you. The RMS Titanic sank April 15, 1912, after hitting an iceberg. The tragedy is considered one of the deadliest of peacetime maritime disasters. More than 1,500 people died.
"Titanic" the film was released December 19, 1997, and was an instant success. It became the highest-grossing film of all time for 12 years, until "Avatar" debuted in 2009.
For all the history buffs reading this, the next couple of sentences may be too painful to contemplate. A couple of the tweets from the uninformed read, "Nobody told me titanic was real? How am I just finding this out?" Another tweet read, "Guys, the Titanic was real! #mindblown."
Most people ware of the existence of the RMS Titanic are in disbelief. One such person tweeted, "The ignorance is astounding." Another person said he was "weeping for the future" at finding out that so many young people are unfamiliar with such a well-known fact.
Read a fucking book, people...
Next they're going to try to tell me that Saving Private Ryan actually happened...
Yeah I'm seeing that all over my TL.
There are morons?!
Stop the fucking presses.

but I
no
why is a "backlash" a thing + a newstory
Knowing that as time passes, there will be more and more ignorant people like these makes me really sad.
What a bunch of retards. I hate kids.
The amount of idiocy is overwhelming.
I can't fucking contain it.
Of course people blame the entire generation, because we all know that prior generations was nothing but completely educated people.
On that note, I blame prior generations for not educating their children on something so simple.
I thought this was funny, but then I realized how bad it is that there are actually people this stupid.
This my friends, are the kids who sat at the back of the class room in schools and pissed away all forms of education, I mean seriously what fucking rock are you under if you didn't know Titanic was real?!
the next thing they'll be telling us is that if we wipe our asses, it'll stay clean.
I call bullshit
Either they didn't pay attention in class, or they're just plain dumb. I understand that it isn't an important fact, but it is common knowledge to anyone that the Titanic sank. It's one of those facts that your teacher would blurt out in Kindergarten. I also think these people might actually be referring to the events in the movie (the love story, the band playing as the ship sank, the guy who slammed against one of the propeller blades), rather than the actual sinking itself. If they are referring to the latter, then my laughter was worth it.
How the fuck can you not know that? That's like not knowing that World War 2 was a real thing.
Once again proving the point that a majority of people who use Twitter more than once a day are complete morons.
How in the fuck is that feasibly possible for anyone with any sort of literary skills?
In elementary school we pretty much rehashed the same three things year after year. The Titanic was one of them. I'm surprised we weren't forced to remember the entire passenger charter after the 5th time.

CoD:WaW was for real??!
Looking for idiots in Twitter is like searching for water in the middle of the sea, what news is there to see? Also, this generation isn't necessarily dumber than the previous ones, it's just that we're more aware of its stupidity than we were before. You simply can't expect an entire generation to be smart, that's on a whole new level of stupidity.

Nazis? I saw that movie.
I learned about the Titantic in 3rd grade. I actually feel sorry for them.

When you put it that way, it makes sense.
I am so fucking pissed right now

These people have gone to school, school won't change the facts that these people don't want to learn and that society basically looks down on being smart. (negative terms like "geeks, nerds, etc.")
