The former Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, is to be moved to a military hospital in Cairo after a doctor declared him well enough to travel. He has been in hospital in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh since falling ill during questioning about corruption allegations and protesters' deaths. Prosecutors said the 82-year-old was supposed to go to Tora prison hospital, but it was not ready to receive him. The military council that took power in February is under pressure to try him. Mr Mubarak's two sons, Gamal and Alaa, along with a number of senior officials and business figures close to him are already being held at Tora prison. Condition 'stable' For the past two weeks, the former leader has been in a private wing of a hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh after being admitted with heart problems. But the public prosecutor, Abdul Maguid Mahmoud, said Mr Mubarak was now fit enough to be transferred to the Mazraa hospital at Tora prison. He will first be moved to a military hospital in the capital, the International Medical Centre, and then to the prison hospital once proper preparations have been made. The facility is not equipped with intensive care facilities that could deal with any sudden deterioration of his heart condition. Once there, Mr Mubarak will face questioning over allegations of corruption, including charges that his government supplied gas to Israel at below market prices. He will also be questioned about his role in ordering the violent response to anti-government protests, in which more than 800 people died. The prosecutor's office cited a doctor's report as saying Mr Mubarak could be moved without endangering his health, as long as he was given appropriate medical treatment. An official source cited by the state news agency Mena said he could be transferred to the military hospital with 48 hours. The BBC's Jonathan Head in Cairo says many Egyptians doubted that the country's new military rulers would be willing to hold the man many soldiers regard as a war hero to account for the abuses of the old regime. But the incarceration of his sons, many of his closest associates and now Mr Mubarak himself may push those doubts aside, he adds. So they're trying to help someone who slaughtered thousands of innocents. I see nothing wrong here.
So they're trying to help someone who slaughtered thousands of innocents. I see nothing wrong here.
He still has rights, you know?
So they're trying to help someone who slaughtered thousands of innocents. I see nothing wrong here.
Mubarak slaughtered no-one.
Mubarak slaughtered no-one.
Yeah, he just gave the order. He's practically a bystander.
So they're trying to help someone who slaughtered thousands of innocents. I see nothing wrong here.
If some guy shoots up and orphanage, lights it on fire, and shoots himself and lives, the emergency workers are still going to save him. It's their job.
So they're trying to help someone who slaughtered thousands of innocents. I see nothing wrong here.
They most likely want to try him for crimes against humanity. They can't very well do that if he's dead, now can they?
Mubarak slaughtered no-one.
Yes because ordering his forces to shoot protesters is obviously not killing anyone.
He probably wants his death to be strangled to death by a nurse or something like that.
They most likely want to try him for crimes against humanity. They can't very well do that if he's dead, now can they?
If he's dead, that's doing the world a favor. I honestly don't think the courts will be upset if he doesn't live to come to trial.
If he's dead, that's doing the world a favor. I honestly don't think the courts will be upset if he doesn't live to come to trial.
I'd rather he have proper justice than left to die on the side of the road. Just because he was a horrid leader who did horrid things doesn't mean I'll just forget about how crimes and justice are supposed to work. Same way I wouldn't want the police to just shoot a murderer after they arrest him.
Yes because ordering his forces to shoot protesters is obviously not killing anyone.
As far as i know, he never actually gave that order. There were obviously however, some form of hostilities there. I'm aware, they did infact open fire in some cases, but i've read nothing suggesting he gave that order himself. However i am open to anything that suggests otherwise.
If he's dead, that's doing the world a favor. I honestly don't think the courts will be upset if he doesn't live to come to trial.
As long as he's alive, he can potentially be brought to justice. When he's dead, all that will be left is to consign him to the history books.
It's about integrity. There's no honor in stooping to his level and killing him without trial
Moving him to a military hospital? That's just using human shields.
I can just hear the conversations now: Prosecutor- "Any change in his condition doctor? We want him to face justice." Doctor- "No, he's just been laying there like a sphinx."
Moving him to a military hospital? That's just using human shields.
How?
I hope he's eating those terrible hospital dinners that consist of beige soup and red sugary gloop.
I hope he's eating those terrible hospital dinners that consist of beige soup and red sugary gloop.
As it's a military hospital, I'm pretty sure the food's good.
Bullshit. I had compound fractures in my tibia and fibula, a fracture femur, a hairline fracture in my jaw, and a shattered foot from skateboarding. Mubarak got chest pains from being yelled at after ruling a country for some three decades. I want that sad old fart to be forced to eat red gloop.
