Police are dispersing hundreds of anti-fracking demonstrators who blocked the B2036 between Balcombe and Cuckfield. Police served a Public Order Act notice, saying the crowd might cause serious damage to property or disrupt the life of the community. Cuadrilla said it condemned all illegal direct action against its operations.
Oh I'd frack her Sussex, if ya kno what I mean.
Do they not want people to be able to peacefully protest? That public order act sounds like a load of bullshit tbh, what other avenue of protest are these people supposed to take? Violent?
They were blocking a road, almost all the locals supported it but legally speaking the arrest was justified
justified legally, sure justified morally, hmm
I'm all for protests against fracking, but when you start to block roads and get rowdy about it... yeah arrests should be made.
I dunno how to feel about the whole fracking thing, to be honest. We don't need to dredge up more ancient carbon yet, since the Earth is already snowballing towards a greenhouse era of arid inlands and sunken coastlines.
justified legally, sure justified morally, hmm
Blocking roads is much better?
Blocking roads is much better?
If a protest inconvenienced nobody, it could be completely ignored.
If a protest inconvenienced nobody, it could be completely ignored.
And evidently this protest did inconvenience people.

Fracking is awful We don't have an energy crisis, why are we doing this
I heard it has the potential to do that, and frankly it kinda makes sense if you think about it, destabilising the integrity of the bedrock. I also heard that it could lead to natural gas poisoning the water, though that's probably down to people remembering the BP catastrophe.

The purpose of protest it to show the people that they can't ignore what's going on any longer, that business as usual cannot progress until something is done about it. Lousy scummy cheating that ignores the issue at hand through derp-eyed technicalities.
You are now legally obligated to provide a picture of your own face.
and those who ask for it also need to provide a picture of themselves
