So, my girlfriend let me borrow her B.C. Rich Warlock Bass, and about an hour ago, I came up with this awesome idea. I plugged the Bass into my electric guitar (lead) amp, and set the drive and treble way up, like I would with my electric. (Also to avoid damage to the speaker...) I started playing a bunch of metal guitar riffs on the bass with the distortion on, and I though of this brilliant idea. What if, I were to completely replace Electric Guitar with Bass guitar, so there is only Bass Guitar and drums? I thought it would be a really cool different sort of thing; playing Bass as electric. I want to give it a name...but I'm not sure if it's been done before. Anyone care to give their thoughts?
I think there are a lot of songs like this [editline]10th December 2012[/editline] it may be fictional, but the bband "The Clash at Demonhead" from the scott pilgrim series only has a drummer, singer, and bassist [editline]10th December 2012[/editline] you could still probably make some good songs either way, and it sounds like an interesting enough idea
Ahh, yeah, I've seen most of that, I never though about that. I was thinking making some kind of Metal style...but I didn't want to be like "LOL NEW SUBGENRE" There's already plenty of those to go around.
like i said, it could be something completely new, you just have to come up with your own style and sound, and share it with others
DFA 1979 is pretty much based on this idea: Yeah that's a bass.
YOU CAN CALL IT DRUM & BASS

Who knows at this point if you're creating a new genre by doing this, but one thing is for sure and that is that you will not be the one to name it if so. It takes years to recognize a new genre. [editline]11th December 2012[/editline] Usually
People still don't have a real genre for most of squarepusher.

Yea I made such a song a while ago, all slap bass with distortion and drums  It's not that great to be honest, what works better to have an 8 string or baritone guitar in the same tuning like an bass! It's way tighter but still gives you that asshole sound! 2 Slap bass played guitars and one normal in the middle + drums by me: [editline]14th December 2012[/editline] 2 bass tuned baritone guitars and one heavy slap bass in the middle sound way tighter as you can hear here: [editline]14th December 2012[/editline] Actually I made another one a few months ago with 3 distorted bass guitars.
Electronic bass :eng101:.
Electric is not the same thing as electronic. The sound source comes from strings that resonate into a pickup that amplifies the sound. If he was playing that, maybe he'd be performing electronic music. With that, the sound is 100% created by electricity.

It's silly to try to lump an experimental artist into one genre, but it's safe to sum him up with something like "electronic". Yeah he's a bass god/based god but he's in the electronic crowd.
dude it was just a joke
oh, somebody would actually argue that kinda logic on the internet. It's hard to tell these days.
