Wallstreet Journal
WASHINGTON—President Barack Obama authorized his administration to provide arms to moderate rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, according to officials briefed on the decision. The decision lifted Mr. Obama's ban on providing lethal assistance to the opposition and tasked the Central Intelligence Agency with working with allies to help organize deliveries. White House officials declined to comment. The development came after officials said that Mr. Obama concluded that Mr. Assad has crossed his "red line" by using chemical weapons in its civil war and the White House has decided to sharply expand U.S. "military support" to rebel fighters. Ben Rhodes, the White House Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications, had earlier said the "scope and scale" of U.S. military support to the rebels. Moderate rebels say they need weapons to hold off Mr. Assad's forces and Hezbollah fighters who are closing in on rebel positions in the city of Aleppo, and the head of Syria's opposition Supreme Military Council, or SMC, issued a plea to U.S. officials and others for arms. Mr. Rhodes said the administration would provide "direct support to the SMC. That includes military support. I cannot detail to you all the types of that support, for a variety of reasons. He added: "But suffice it to say, this is going to be different in both scope and scale in terms of what we are providing to the SMC than what we have provided before." He said he cannot "inventory" the type of support that will be provided, but he said the aim is to improve the "effectiveness of the SMC on the ground." Almost out of one war and dipping our feet into another
Mujahideen 15: The electric boogaloo
Gee, I wonder if anything would ever go wrong
Gee what a great idea, totally won't bite us and the syrians in the ass later on.
Now all we need is: "BREAKING NEWS - Russia to provide MILITARY support to Regime!" And the Proxy war is on.
Obama what the fuck are you doing.
This is so stupid. America world police going strong.
Russia isn't going to like this news.
Now all we need is: "BREAKING NEWS - Russia to provide MILITARY support to Regime!" And the Proxy war is on.
Woo! Party like it's 1963!
Obama what the fuck are you doing.
Breaking more promises...
Well I sure do hope they give those weapons back when we kindly ask for them.
Did he specifically state only if the government used chemical weapons or if either side did? A bit of a double standard if he only specified government use as a trigger.
Now all we need is: "BREAKING NEWS - Russia to provide MILITARY support to Regime!" And the Proxy war is on.
I'm pretty sure Iran and Russia have been supporting the Government the whole time. Iirc Iran even sent troops.
Doesn't surprise me this happened at all.
I'm pretty sure Iran and Russia have been supporting the Government the whole time. Iirc Iran even sent troops.
Also Israel with the rebels as well, only reason they gave up was cause it was too hard, but with USA doing this, who knows?
So basically we're setting the stage for Afghanistan v2? Welp, should we start taking bets on how long it'll take for this to backfire?
this would have been idea when the war first started ( well maybe just some aid ) when the rebels had a just case but they left or died and who is left is just as bad or worse than Assd
Why do we have to get into another war? This is so unnecessary, we should just stay out of it.
I'd have never thought the day would come, but it looks like I can finally use this without the slightest hint of a joke at the bottom of it. ..ahem... *cough* *cough*

THANKS, OBAMA

Flawless tactic. Everything has been peachy ever since the Mujahideen was supplied with weapons to chase Russia out of Afghanistan. I'm sure we'll be just as safe this time around! :downs:
Gee, I wonder if anything would ever go wrong
You can make a mad libs type format and put in anything and you can get the same results. Oh yeah lets arm these rebels (Viet Minh) to get rid of a non friendly government (Empire of Japan) from the area. Oh yeah lets arm these rebels (Mujaheddin) to get rid of a non friendly government (USSR) from the area.
Let's make one of the rebel leaders a CIA agent and supply his group! http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osama_bin_Laden
Fucking hell are you serious? Can we not be in a conflict for 5 seconds?
congress' decision, not obamas. Obama has authorised it, but it's the fucking stupid ass congress who came up with the idea thanks, congress
McCain will be happy.
Because this is what Americans want - endless, endless war.
Could someone more knowledgable than myself speculate on how this might affect shit with Russia?
[t]http://davidkretzmann.com/images/obama%20change.jpg[/t] Times are a changing, indeed.
On the plus side it gives military shooters a new setting. But seriously this is terrible.
