I have ordered for my partners computer an AGP GeforceFX 5950 Ultra, The computer is my old PC, specs are
2 x Xeon Dual core 3.06Ghz (total 4 cores)
Dual Xeon CPU socket motherboard
2GB DDR1 (333Mhz) ram (4x 512MB)
The motherboard has 2 PCI slots, 1 AGP Pro (2x, 4x, 8x & Pro) socket and 2 ISA slots, I don't want to upgrade the motherboard and CPU's as they are really good (and very stable)
So I went on to eBay and purchased the 5950 Ultra, I'd like to know will this play most games at 1650x1050 on medium settings (not top of the range games or anything, stuff like Gothic 3, Max Payne 2, Max Payne 3 etc?
Yes, it can
... That GPU is like 7 years old, I highly doubt it'll run anything modern decently.
Max Payne 2 may work if you set everything to the absolute lowest setting, though.

No it won't. Gothic 3 ran quite bad even on my 8800gt.
Thats the best NVidia card i could find for an agp slot

Why does it have to be an Nvidia?
Why does it have to be Nvidia?
Because EVERY SINGLE ATI card (Radeon 9600, 9800 XT, 1200XT, some FireGL 3450 and 4850) I have ever owned has died within a few months, and the drivers are crap.
Out of all the NVidia cards I have had (Geforce 2, 440MX, FX5200, 6300GS, 7200, 8800GX, 9800, GTX260 and GTX470) only 1 has failed, and that was after just over a year (the 8800GX)
Strange, that happened to my past 3 nvidia cards... In the last 4months

If you have used those cards why not use the pc has them instead?

because A: my partners PC only has an AGP slot and B, I sell all the old graphics cards on ebay

Stop being such a fucking fanboy. If you want the best AGP cards, you're gonna have to go ATi, I don't remember any recent AGP nvidias. Also, the entire Geforce FX series is hopelessly out of date, and won't run any new games.
I think the most recent AGP Nvidia was a variation of the 7600GS.

I'm not a fanboy, I only go on what I've experienced, and I'd rather have a properly functioning graphics card with longer than a few months use in

Funny. I've owned three Nvidia cards, two of them died on me (One of them died because of my PSU breaking down, and the other one broke down because of a combo of extremely bad airflow and dust build-up), and I've owned three ATi cards, none of them have died on me.
Stop being a fanboy.

I've had quite a few ATi cards, and about an equal number of Nvidia cards. None have spontaneously died on me. You have to be doing something wrong.
Also, this should suit your needs perfectly:

I think one of the strongest AGP cards out on the market, is the Radeon HD 3850.
Whatever you choose, Nvidia or ATI, the cards don't simply break after a few months (they can work for years), both companies produces high quality products.

Yes you are, stop denying it.
ATI has some godly AGP cards. Stop being a fanboy, get a decent card. Honestly, I ran Bioshock maxed at ~30fps on an AGP card (the X1650 I think?). All the Source games, too.
The best AGP card is the ATi 3850.
There is nothing better than that on AGP.

This.
My first card was an AGP FX5200, Gothic 3 Lowest settings? I'd say about 1-3 FPS, yet that game is amazingly unoptimized.
There's a pretty big difference between the card mentioned in the OP and the card you had.
Yes, it can
wow, I got quite alot boxes there
You guys are wrong, even my fx5200 can run gothic 3 decently at low

around 20fps
