Bulgaria to close all external EU borders amidst the refugee crisis, PM Boyko Borisov announces
Bulgaria will close all its external EU borders and deport anyone who does not meet the criteria for asylum, the country's Prime Minister has announced, as talks on how to address the migration crisis continue.
Addressing a press conference in Prague, Boyko Borissov said:
I would like to highlight that Bulgaria's position is to close all external borders of the European Union -
not inside the EU, but external borders.
To leave only the legal border crossing points where all migrants can cross,
can be registered, finger-printed, checked their health status and
fulfill the procedure for asylum for those who are seeking asylum.
The rest that do not qualify should be returned.
– Boyko Borisov, PM of Bulgaria
He warned that a final solution was "needed" at the Brussels summit on Thursday and Friday, as it had "taken too long" to date and with warmer weather around the corner, he said, the results could be "catastrophic".

Notes:
This means EXTERNAL EU borders - in other words the borders to Macedonia, Tukey and Serbia.
The quip about "warmer weather around the corner" is interesting - as you might imagine, with spring time coming, the influx of refugees will increase. That, along with the fierce fighting in Syria taking place and the exodus of large amounts of its populace, in my opinion means that Spring 2016 will be one of the most critical periods of time for Europe and it's handling of the crisis.
What will Turkey do then with it's blackmail "send more money or we release the refugees" line?

Holy shit he couldn't have used a worse term if he tried

Welcome to Bulgarian politics mate, that's not the worst thing he's said and or done to date.

It's not like it's a very specific set of words. I honestly didn't read it in a Godwin's Law sense until you made me.

This is him on a good day.

Still not a set of words you use in this situation though holy hell haha. It does look bad.
How do Bulgarians feel about the border situation? If there is more popular support for this than not I'd say it's a good move. Ultimately it should be for the people of Bulgaria to decide.

What exactly did he say wrong, I don't get it ? The EU still doesn't seem to know how to handle all this.

He didn't say anything wrong. It's just hilariously poor wording.

Bulgarians are mostly against the letting refugees pass through our borders. At least that's the impression I have from the people I've talked too.

I think you're overreacting.

Bulgarians aren't too fond of refugees passing through the border, most are for tighter border control, and another part is for completely closing off the borders. Plus most Bulgarian's wouldn't give a single damn unless it directly affects them, which would usually be followed by mass protests and most likely end up keeping politicians locked in parliament until they can be evacuated by the police.

IT'S A JOKE
holy fuck
I'm making light of it. It's not my fault if I have to explain the joke to one person.

The phrase in Bulgarian carries no connotation with the term, this is just a translation artefact.

I think this is a clear cut case of Poe's Law in action, my mistake

Alright then.
I was only poking fun at the usage and now suddenly the thread is about this. I don't actually think he's planning to systematically eliminate the refugees. It was dry humour, laughing at the awkwardness of it amidst already peaking tensions.

Typically, I use the ":v:" emote to show the post isn't meant to be taken too seriously.
I sort of use it as FP's own private sarcasm punctuation :v:

u wot m8
I perfectly understood the joke. IT MADE ME LAUGH ACTUALLY. YES. A LOT.
Now
This guy got BALLS OF STEEL because he'll get some flak inside EU....
It's not like Bulgaria had much problems, they built fences on their borders with Greece/Turkey way before this whole thing got this bad. So the refugees from last year have been mostly avoiding crossing Bulgaria.

The fences aren't that big of a deal, it's mostly the fact that Bulgaria isn't in the Schengen zone, it's not surrounded by EU members, and the one EU country it borders with that also allows refugees to go north is Romania, and Romania has an extremely small land border with Bulgaria, not to mention that it too isn't in the Schengen zone.
