SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Charles Manson, one of California's most notorious and high-profile inmates, was found with a smuggled cell phone inside his cell at Corcoran State Prison for a second time, a source with California's Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation told KCRA.
This latest discovery was made on Jan. 6 in a highly protected area inside the prison, the CDCR confirmed to KCRA.
Manson has been issued a rules violation for possession of a contraband cell phone. He has a right to appeal, the . Manson lost 30 days credit for his previous rules violation.
An investigation is under way to determine how the cell phone was smuggled into the prison and into Manson's cell.
In December, the infamous convicted murderer had a LG flip phone hidden under his mattress, which was found by prison officials.
Manson used the phone to make calls and send text messages to people in California, New Jersey, Florida and British Columbia, Terry Thornton, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections, told the Los Angeles Times in December.
"Contraband cell phones are becoming so prevalent in California prisons that guards can't keep them out of the hands of the most notorious and violent inmates: Even Charles Manson, orchestrator of one of the most notorious killing rampages in U.S. history," said the Times' report, referring to the 1969 murders of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six other people.
President Barack Obama signed a bill in August that bans cell phones from federal prisons and makes it a crime that is punishable by up to a year in jail for smuggling one in, notes the Times. But the bill does not apply to state prison facilities. And that's where Manson, 76, is housed, at Corcoran State Prison, in Kings County, Calif.
Then there was no reception.
I bet all his calls were just gibberish anyway.
He's probably calling random people and telling them he's inside the house.

Actually, for the first cell phone he had, he sang someone a voice message wishing them a happy birthday.
I don't think he's as crazy as people make him out to be.

He used his smuggled cellphone for a happy birthday.
That's just being counter productive.

There's a small piece of humanity and kindness in even the most heartless killers.
/optimistic

it's not counter productive at all, don't say things that aren't true
This article has the exact same wording of one I read months ago...
He's my favorite crazy-ass
Ring-A-Ding-Ding?
You guys make him sound like he's not a human being.
You guys make him sound like he's not a human being.
I'd welcome him into my life instantly over any other asshole on this planet.
Poverty makes people do reckless things, but corporations do worse to protect their bling.

Why is everybody a Manson sympathizer all of a sudden.

He's far from crazy. Well, not that far.
He's actually an incredibly brilliant and charismatic man, who was able to convince people to go out and kill for his cause, without getting any blood on his hands.
I want to make some sort of witty comment comparing him to politicians, using the phrase "The only difference is nobody voted for him," but I can't think of anything.

Because they all wish they could manipulate women like he did.
You guys make him sound like he's not a human being.
he's more brutal and ruthless than an animal, let alone human

bhahhaha
thom yorke and bjork are charismatic and brilliant
charles manson is a blood thirsty loon
Wouldn't it be possible to use short range transmitters to block any cell traffic into and out of the prison?

the only difference is he didn't get any votes.

You don't even need a jammer, just convert the prison into a faraday cage.
When he was incarcerated, he wasn't anywhere near crazy. He was a genius. But now, after being in for so long he seems crazy. The hole (solitary) can drive the sanest genius alive, completely mad!
This man was crazy smart.

Radio jammers can block the signal in a prison easier, and it's much cheaper.
All those girls who worshipped him were killed lots of people. You could say he's into angry birds, maybe that's why he needs mobile phones.

now you're just lying
now you're just lying
Ok, he was pretty crazy, but he was definitely a smart man.
Ok, he was pretty crazy, but he was definitely a smart man.
smart in what way
he was illiterate, utterly failed at most of his crimes, had hilariously inept theories, and treated women like shit
Wouldn't it be possible to use short range transmitters to block any cell traffic into and out of the prison?
Devices that block communication signals are strictly prohibited in the US.
he's more brutal and ruthless than an animal, let alone human
So hilarious
In comparison to shit like Jack the Ripper, and even more modern serial killers, what Charles Manson did barely counts as a crime.
Tell me, do you actually know anything about the Manson killings?

I don't think a "blood thirsty loon" would be so easily able to convince people to do the shit that they did, let alone bother with convincing other people at all.
Could you manipulate people into shaving their heads and crawling through the streets of Los Angeles?
