Installing an AMD Phenon II X4, problems with BIOS update
4 replies, posted
So basicly, when i bought this, i got a tip that i should update my BIOS BEFORE installing the processor itself.
What is the problem is i have no idea how to update it. The package didn't contain a disk, nothing. Just the physical installing instructions and Radeon graphics card info along with the processor and the fan.
So how the hell can i update my BIOS so my computer does work after putting this rockbuck in?
PS: Wtf is a rockbuck? I have no idea.
EDIT:
Nevermind, here you go.
current rig is the following:
ATI Radeon HD 3450 (256 MB)
AMD Athlon Dual Core 4450e
2GB RAM
My motherboard's name is:
64-0100-000001-00101111-112008-ATHLON64$7B4A1C31_RS740 B2 112008
I know rite? Should have something reasonable but that's all i got out from my system =(
Edit:
Okay, fuck it. Now i'm getting desperate. I even googled and all i got was misty shit i can't make heads or tails out of. I hate to say it but FP is the only place that might be able to explain what to do anymore :D I hope there would be an alternative, seeing that FP is 50% full of trolls and other faggots. But i REALLY hope those other 50% can answer and help me with this..
SO GUYS DOWN HERE IS THE TL;DR
tl;dr - I got AMD Phenom II X4, but i need to update my BIOS. My computer is Acer Aspire M1201 and the specs info is up there ^

Anyways, i hope you come up with the solution. I can't wait to install this thing. Oh, and one other thing as just a sidenote. Fan or processor first? I got the two differently.
Calm down this thread exists 2 hours.
Annyways, You can update bios via:
-bootable memory stick
-CD
-Express via a program(not recomended)
-Floppy
I would reccomend a bootable usb.
I cannot find you motherbord tough so you need to open up your case and look at the letters on your mobo.(or have a program that tells you)

Allright. I was stupid and installed it. Now i got BSOD and i can copy the error, although what i suspect the problem to be is:
The BIOS supports my processor, but doesn't know exactly which one is it that it supports, so it can't fully understand it. I can't run my computer normally but in the umm...fuck what was that word. The mode that tries to ingore all errors and disables some actions in your system. But the physical installation went fairly easy after some raging and fucking everything up. Oh and about my motherboard, i found out its real name.
I have no idea what the fuck is a bootable usb nor have i ever before heard fo one. i tried to flash my BIOS via uniflash etc. but it really didn't work nor do i think it's the same as updating. Actually it failed miserably. it didn't update a shit. But the motherboard. It's from Gigabyte.
GA-MA74GM-S2 if i remember correctly. I tried searching the same site for updates, but i had no idea wtf to do with them.
EDIT: 2 seconds, i think i could've found a possible solution.
EDIT: Fuck that, i tried what GIGABYTE suggested. I went to setup, entered Advanced BIOS Features and chose "Load Optimal Defaults" or something like that. Did nothing useful. Although it showed me that my system has an USB as the THIRD Boot device for BIOS. First is SATA whatever that is, 2nd is CD/DVD and 3rd is the USB.
EDIT: Wait, can a MP3 player count as a bootable USB? It has a USB gate/port in it, and it loads power by attaching straight into your computer or any other USB device. I see if i can find a picture...here.

Media'd because it looks cleaner.
Bootable USB means you need to have a USB storage device with some sort of program on it which boots when you turn on your computer. Like a LiveCD - it boots straight into whatever was on the USB instead of trying to find an operating system. From there you can make adjustments to your BIOS.

Allright, i got it working. Vista can start normally and all. Only problem i got is this sound. Best way to describe it is that it's a *djung* beep. Actually it's a "deep" not a "beep*
And it repeats every 10 seconds. It plays once, wait 10-60 seconds then plays again.
Fuck, it's in patterns now. ITS CREEPING ME OUT HELP ;_;
The pattern changes but it's usually 2 'deeps'
Dung...Dung...................................................................Dung...Dung
so basicly 2 sounds with a 5-sec pause in between, then 30-sec pause. I think it resets in the 30-sec.
