Fast.com: An extremely simple speedtest website by Netflix
86 replies, posted
Today we are launching fast.com, a simple-to-use website to help you see how fast your Internet connection is, whether on mobile or broadband, anywhere in the world. And like the Netflix service, it’s ad free with a streamlined design that is quick and easy to understand.
We all want a faster, better Internet, yet Internet speeds vary greatly and can be affected by other users on your network or congestion with your Internet service provider. When you’re experiencing streaming issues, fast.com allows you to check the download speeds you’re getting from your Internet service provider. Using Netflix servers, fast.com works like other globally available tools including speedtest.net, and the results should be similar in most cases.
this shows though how your connection is to netflix, and when compared to speedtest.net, the discrepancies between the two and how isps throttle netflix/prioritise speedtest.net

I got 90 on both, so I guess that's good news?

Your isp is not throttling your netflix connection, no. I'll need to test this out at my dad's, he has AT&T (and thus probably throttled on netflix)
I got 11, which is the max I get downloading anything really, so hurray my ISP isn't throttling me per say
Speed test reports speeds 15 to 25 percent faster, though I think it's more my ISP bullshitting the Speedtest result than them throttling Netflix, because Speedtest is reporting my max internet speed, which never happens.
I'm on Comcast and I get 92 Mb/s on Fast and 94 Mb/s on Speedtest.
Close enough.
huh, i'm actually getting quite a bit more than what i'm paying for right now.....
take that you price gouging bastards at TWC!

on the other hand, they "accidentally" cut my cable line a couple weeks back
Midco doesn't throttle either. Didn't suspect it though.
Yay TWC is throttling me. Only got 31 instead of 50.
On Comcast, I get 95ish on fast and 65 on speed test somehow, so woohoo I guess?
What do you know. My ISP that I'm 1/3rd of the network engineers for doesn't throttle. I would've never guess.

I should buy myself a drink as a thank you.
fast.com says 4.0Mbps and speedtest says my download speed is 4.38Mbps and upload is 0.57
its shit isnt it
2.30 Mbps on Fast, 5.97 Mbps on Speedtest.
Something isn't right here...
300 on fast, 315 on speedtest, but I don't think I should complain. If you're in the Austin area, Grande is dope.

Yup, just as I expected.
And should it come up, my Giantbomb speedtest (downloading UPF every friday) maxes out at 100kB/s.

fast.com says 1.3

Fast:210
SpeedTest:207
Seems pretty accurate.
Didn't expect such a huge throttle difference from my IPS (webpass),
613mbps on speedtest
120mbps on fast.net
I prefer http://testmy.net/ since it gives you a real world result of what your internet speeds are. It doesn't give you an optimistic view, like speedtest, or this site.
Yay TWC is throttling me. Only got 31 instead of 50.
You're not going to notice a difference between 31 and 50 on Netflix, to be fair.

Real world my arse. It reckons my speed is 3.7 down and 360 up when real world actual use goes at 6 and 1, even with the ADSL limitations I can still get 5 down and 0.8 up at the same time. That site is so bad.
Fast says 19
Speedtest says 13.9
Strange
Another thing to note is that this is running off the same servers that Netflix delivers their content on, meaning you can use it to tell if your ISP is throttling them (also, compared to speedtest.net's crowdsourced server pool, it's going to be faster/more reliable).
On TWC, getting 68Mbps on Fast, 215Mbps on Speedtest. Definitely some throttling going on there.
i hate to say this, but i'd kill to have 68mbps

Yeah it says I get 8.1 Mbps down (Which is like 1MB/s) when in reality I get ~24 Mbps (3+ MB/s).
