Right now, I think they get played by the car stereo in alphabetical order.
Usually for this stuff, I'd use [url=http://www.joejoesoft.com/vcms/108/]Rename Master[/url]
Can sort the files by date created there, then add a number to the start to make the car play them in that order
Also it could be changing metadata for tracks could do the trick too.

That depends on fully on car stereo I think though.

I got 700 tracks, and that program is taking a lot of time with renaming the mp3s. This isn't a good solution because I add tracks often to the stick and I'd have to do the renaming every time I added new ones...
Can you make the stereo play in any different order?
If you could reverse the order, you could just add an ascending number to the newest file, meaning you don't have to rename EVERY file when you add a new song
ok, rename master didn't work. song which got 52250 placed in front of its name plays first, not 01, 02 and so on. it's just scrambled now

the stereo doesn't have any options for playing order.
What stereo is it? There might be something in a manual explaining how it works

Are the files all in separate folders or together?
