• Looking to buy a new Graphics card.

I'm looking for a new GPU. I currently have a Radeon HD 6850 but I want something better. I'm already getting an Intel Core i5-4690 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor and an MSI H97 PC MATE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard. I need a GPU that can handle these newer games like Far Cry 4, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs and the new CoD just as an example. I've been looking at this one: Sapphire Dual-X Radeon R9 270 2GB What do you guys think? Will it be able to run these games?
maybe go for the 280 or 290. in terms of performance, yes, that card should run them, but with the rest of the hardware i think a slightly higher end card might be a better match. just to not leave the gpu as a bottleneck for a while. also, are you on/going to a ssd?
Well I was looking at the 280 I think it was but it was currently out of stock at Newegg which was the cheapest place to get it. As far as a SSD, I don't have one yet. I get how they work and what they do, but how can I use it if it's only 128gb? I'm not going to fork over tons of coin just to get a SSD with a higher capacity. Edit: As far as the other hardware, I thought that CPU was actually pretty decent. Was I wrong?

If you can go for the extra cash, the 970 gtx is a great deal ATM

But now that I'm looking again, I see that they're in stock already lol. But as far as the SSD, what do I need it for exactly? I know the computer boots quicker and it's just faster in general, but is that it? And so we have the R9 280 for $270 and the GTX 970 for $330...
general efficiency. ssds load games faster, boot faster, don't make nearly as much heat as a hdd and no vibration, durable, etc. the speed increase is almost terrifying if you have only used midrange hdds in the past. as far as gpu, i think you could go for any lower high range(if that makes sense) card and you'd be fine. like not the top of the line but not the low budget option. unless your budget is low. what kind of cash are you working with here?
http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html The GTX970 is a tiny bit better than the regular Titan according to some other benchmark I saw on another site, and apparently a lot better than the R9 280. Plus you get Shadowplay, PhysX and this new weird nvidia tech that lets you downsample every game from 4K no matter your monitor because it's being done by geforce experience

What would I put on the SSD? Just the os? Now, I'm working with about $1200. I have the Motherboard covered with a different bag of coin... Of course, my car is a little fubared at the moment. That'll cost about $700 to fix. So maybe $500ish for the CPU and GPU? That sounds about right. I'm sort of a money-saving fiend though, so I'm looking to try and have a little money at least until payday (Tuesday). Super helpful! So the GTX 970 is right under the 780 Ti... I'm not much for knowing what is better than what, but I can damn sure put a computer together fast. I just need the info.
i use a ssd as my only drive, with no issue. whats wrong with the car?
i use a ssd as my only drive, with no issue. whats wrong with the car?
Where do you keep your games if your SSD is your only drive? And weeeellll, my car overheats. I'm told it's the timing covers and timing cover gaskets. Not to mention I need a tune-up and new tires :/

[editline]19th September 2014[/editline] An SSD is no different from a regular HDD, it's just a lot faster.
"A car is no different from a regular bicycle, just a lot faster" How they work is pretty different
Well yeah no shit, but to the end user, it's storage.

And they said it could... I don't know, that's what they told me. The pressure ends up building up in the radiator and when I turn my car off, the coolant comes spewing out from under the cap... But anyways, back to the main subject. xplicitt said he has a 120gb SSD as his only dtive and only uses like 30 of it. I don't know how that is if he has any games...
That sounds like your headgasket. :\
Wouldn't surprise me. That would be my luck.
If he only has 30 gigs, it's probably just his OS and maybe a couple basic programs. It depends on what OS he's using though. A fully up to date W7 uses around 34 gigs, 8.1 uses 17, most Linux distros use far less.
Yeah can confirm W7 is a fat ass
Alright well I think I'm going to stick with my HDD for now. Maybe get a SSD later and put my os on it or something.

Well you normally buy an SSD to just run Windows, a few of your main applications, and the games you mainly play. You use a regular hard drive for mass storage of everything else like music, pictures, video, most games, etc. The fact you can cold boot a PC and be on windows desktop fully loaded in under 15 seconds is magical. At least if you're on a budget. I want one of those SSD Samsung 850 pro's one day either 512GB or 1TB. Maybe in a year or two the prices will drop even further. Its getting cheaper by the year. As for video cards the GTX970 is the best bang for your buck right now. I can't really speak for Radeon since I haven't owned one since the X1600 lol, but Nvidia just has a history of better drivers which I think is still the case? Also Physx and shadowplay are quite awesome. I'm still using the GTX670 until the next series comes out, skipping 7 and 900's. Still runs most games on decent settings.
