It does go quite well with Maxis emphasizing the social aspect so much in interviews.
Not saying I instantly believe them but it's far from unlikely.

Alright, since its clearly hindering both the game and it's sales, and it's proven offline play is possible, then why not offer an offline option?

If it's not DRM then why the fuck couldn't there be an [b]OPTION[/b] to play offline? I don't buy any of that ~artistic view~ bullshit they gave as an excuse for no offline play, it's the exact same bullshit Bioware gave about ME3's ending.

I think EA/Maxis is missing one massively important part of this issue. Even if they honestly didn't make it with the intention of it being online only DRM, the customer perceives it as such and will continue to classify it as such.

And not immediately beginning work on an offline mode as soon as they realized their servers couldn't handle the pressure.
Why not just admit you did something bad and regain the already sullied reputation you have around gamers?
