I'm replacing my build from '07 with a Sandy Bridge Build. First off, here's what I've selected so far: MoBo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131693 (One of the better rated P67's) RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231225 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185 OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754 CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115073 Case: Don't know PSU: Don't know Mostly just want to upgrade. My current GPU is a Nvidia GTX 260, don't know if that's enough. Want to play Just Cause 2, Arma II, Minecraft (currently only get 20 FPS) Thanks!
3x*GB isn't going to work, get 2x* or 4x*.
4 or 8 GB? I assume 4 would be enough.
4 or 8 GB? I assume 4 would be enough.
Yea, 4GB is enough, you had 6 (2x3) and Sandy Bridge doesn't support triple channel.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231276 Any good? Has a low CAS Lateny while staying within a good price.
4 Gigs is fine. Do you want to overclock? If so get the K version of your CPU and this motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128460, if not then get one of the cheaper H57 motherboards. Here's a case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119216&cm_re=cm_690_ii-_-11-119-216-_-Product and a PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371026. Get all of this an install your current GPU. The 260 isn't awful but it isn't great ether, see what performance is like and if it isn't good enough then get this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102913&cm_re=6870-_-14-102-913-_-Product
Let me start off with this: That motherboard is way overkill. Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157217&cm_re=asrock_extreme4-_-13-157-217-_-Product RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144461&cm_re=geil_4gb-_-20-144-461-_-Product HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152185&cm_re=samsung_F3-_-22-152-185-_-Product OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM ($100) Case + PSU COMBO!!!: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119197&cm_re=haf_922-_-11-119-197-_-Product Choose the Corsair 650w for the combo. [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] And depending on whether you want to overclock or not, i5-2500k.
I don't know anything about overclocking and I never have, so.. [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.584363 ? I just saw this.
No, get the combo with the PSU+case. There is really never need for 8GB RAM. In the case that you are not overclocking: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131685&cm_re=h67-_-13-131-685-_-Product
Honestly I don't like that case at all. I'm open to overclocking, I just don't know how.
Your GTX 260 is fine. I haven't added up the prices yet, so assuming you got the H67 ASUS motherboard, you should have a good sum of money left over. I'm really tired, so can you add up the prices and tell me how much you have left so I can get you a new GPU? Also, are you planning to upgrade/go SLI/Crossfire at some point? [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] Ok, then if you are going to OC, stay with the original motherboard. [editline]30th January 2011[/editline] How about this case then: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119216&cm_re=cm690-_-11-119-216-_-Product
I already have a cave, but I figured that If I could get something different, I would. I don't know much about SLI / Crossfire but it seems like it would be cheaper to get another GTX 260 ( I don't know if it would perform better than say, a HD 6870. Either way, newegg doesn't sell the 260, either that, or I can't find it.) I don't know, I asked someone I know who runs a Hardware store and he said I should get the sabertooth as the sound card on it is much better (So he says) (It's something I really need.) With the following, Samsung Spinpoint F3 ATi HD6870 Antec EarthWatts 750w A-DATA Gaming Series 240-Pin DDR3 ASUS Sabertooth P67 ( I might aswell overclock, now!) Sandy Bridge i5-2500k ( I'm in deep, now! ) Windows 7 OEM 1-Pack 64 Bit Final price after shipping is $944.93 (USD)
If you choose 6870, get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125357&cm_re=6870-_-14-125-357-_-Product For $20 more though, you can get a really good GPU, the GTX 560: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127565&cm_re=gtx_560-_-14-127-565-_-Product However, the GTX 260 in SLI outperform both of those cards. I found one here for $99: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4683600&CatId=3585 [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] By the way, the sound card doesn't affect output nearly as much as decent speakers. There is really no need to get one unless you are an audio engineer. Either way, if you buy the ASRock motherboard, you can still buy another sound card. No need to spend that much money on something that doesn't affect performance. Also, dust in that motherboard must be a bitch to clean up. [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] Then again, if you get another GTX 260, you don't get DX11.
Why are you getting a Sabertooth? Seems unnecessary, imo.
-snip-
On second thought. Change the motherboard to the ASRock (trust me you REALLY don't need the sabertooth) and get an Nvidia GTX 560 Ti.
Will the 560 outperform SLI 260's? [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] Well, fuck me. The ASrock is out of stock. Should I just get the 2500 and not the K and just not overclock? ALSO: Will I need better cooling than default case fans? (well, ones I installed, two on top, vent on side, two on front, one on back.) Should I get the MSI TwinFrozr or the EVGA card? The GTX 560 Ti, that is.
You can still get decent overclocks on the H67 chipset.
Newegg has yanked all the Sandy Bridge motherboards at Intels request. You're build is going to have to wait unless you want to change up the parts.
Sigh. Why did the yank the parts? [editline]1st February 2011[/editline] I know it was intels request, but why?
