My 5th Macbook charger is now, officially broken. I bought it in December. I need it this Summer, or I'm computerless. I do not have $90 to shell out on another one. :sigh: Anyone have any suggestions as to fixing it? I've tried cleaning it, different plugs, resettings SMC..
Who in their sane minds would pay $90 for an adapter? I'd sooner get a cheap-o first.
How do you manage to break it 5 times?
How do you manage to break it 5 times?
It's not me breaking it, they break themselves. They just stop working.
Anyone buy from these guys before? GainSaver. They have 394 reviews on Google Shopping, 4.4/5 stars. Edit: Graah nevermind. I'd rather spend $80 on an official one.
I'm pretty sure you'd get some sort of warranty. Have you took it to an Apple store and raged? I appeared pretty pissed when I got a dead pixel on my MBP and was helped pretty quickly.
You'd rather spend gobs and gobs of money constantly replacing the adapter with an official one? Why?
Just call up Apple (Or better yet, go to a retail store) and let them know that you bought a charger less than a year ago and now it's broken. You may need to prove the date of purchase, but it'll be covered free of charge.
I've only ever had one problem with my charger - it didn't have a fucking grounding pin because Apple are retarded. I just spent $20 on a AC adapter to wall cord instead of the whole charger.
Theres a warranty on the adapters, your silly for buying new ones. Also 5 times? I think you may want to get the power in your house checked out.
When you coil it up, leave a chunk sticking up, then wrap. That's about 90% of the issues with them dying.
how have you not tried warranty?

Or it might be what psp401 said.
Have you tried using the warranty on the adapters?
How in the mother of fuck do they get away with charging 90 fucking clams for an adapter??
How in the mother of fuck do they get away with charging 90 fucking clams for an adapter??
80 $, and its a power brick, not just an adapter.
Go to an Apple store and have them replace it, they should replace it for free.
80 $, and its a power brick, not just an adapter.
A power brick is an adapter. [editline]22nd May 2011[/editline] That would also mean, that, assuming you never used the warranty, you have shoveled $400 into adapters. Four. hundred. U.S. Dollars. You must be certifiably mad.
i have had nothing but problems with many cheap non-official Apple products i have about 6 iPod cables that barely work and last time when I bought a cheap chinese laptop charger for my old laptop it about boiled water
Well all my chinese shit products worked fine for me. I bought two HDMI cables "1.5 Yards long" for two dollars with free shipping from Hongkong which works fine. As well as my Apple headphones and recharger.
Anyone know how long a warranty is on the charger? I didn't buy AppleCare or anything on it, but I don't want to look like an ass when I'm demanding a new charger for free even though my warranty expired. I bought the charger sometime in December.

However you should write a support ticket on www.apple.com and let them pay the shipping and send you the emballage for free. "If I remember correctly" Apple Support will examine your charger and see where it's broken, if it's your own fault you will not have a new charger. I hope my post will help you.
usually my charger works just fine but on some days i have to wiggle it for the light to show up on the charger, is this normal? sometimes i forget to check if the light came on and my laptop ends up not charging

The individual Apple part you purchased still has the year limited hardware warranty. If you go to an authorised service provider, they'll tell you tough luck and that's why you'll need to call up AppleCare to get an exception. If you call up, say that you purchased the adaptor in December last year (If true ofc), that you've reset SMC/PRAM and that the computer can charge with another Magsafe adaptor. If the advisor tells you to go to an Apple Authorised Service Provider, say that they'd likely tell you to "go away" and that you'd like to speak to a Senior Advisor. That WILL get you sorted :)
I got a new one. For free. :smug: Only problem is that for some reason, even though the battery *is* charging, power source is stuck at power adapter.
