• Montana Man Survives Two Grizzly Bear Attacks in One Day
Orr was hiking through Madison Valley on Saturday morning, scouting for elk, when he came across a female grizzly and two cubs. He shouted, "Hey, bear!" to scare them away (as experts recommend), and for a moment it appeared to work – the grizzly turned and ran a short way up the trail. Then she changed her mind.

Orr went face-first into the dirt, wrapping his arms around his neck as the grizzly bit his neck, arms and backpack. Each bite was like "a sledge hammer with teeth," he said, the bear attacking every few seconds for a couple of minutes. After what felt like an eternity, the bear ran off, leaving Orr injured and stunned, but alive. He stood up shakily and started the long three-mile hike back to his truck. He only made it about five or ten minutes before he heard a sound coming out of the forest behind him. He spun around. The grizzly was back. "I couldn't believe this was happening a second time! Why me?" he wrote. "I was so lucky the first attack, but now I questioned if I would survive the second."

He tried to stay quiet – to play dead – but when one bite crushed through his forearm to the bone, he gasped for air, a sound that set the bear into a frenzy. His hand had gone numb. Blood poured over his face. A couple of bites opened up a gash above his ear, nearly scalping him. He prayed the bear wouldn't hit an artery. "She suddenly stopped and just stood on top of me ... I could feel and her breath on the back of my neck, just inches away," Orr wrote. "For thirty seconds she stood there crushing me. My chest was smashed into the ground and forehead in the dirt. When would the next onslaught of biting began. I didn't move. And then she was gone." Give this man two Oscars
Holy shit. He gets mauled by a bear twice, walks three miles, drives seventeen more, and isn't in critical condition.

wow, he's very lucky to be alive
At least this didn't come to a grizzly end. :badzing:
That's fucking terrifying
This is what the Cold War has become Who can fight and survive bears more
Unbelievable endurance.
Fuck bears, I hate bears.
The willpower you need to just lay there and take it while not knowing if youre already bleeding out or if the next excruciatingly painful bite or scratch will be the one that kills you, man, I just couldn't do that.
And this is why you carry in bear country. Good on him for having the will and endurance to get back home.

Orr stayed on the ground and reached for a pistol he had holstered. It was gone, ripped off with his pack.
Doesnt mention him reaching for it until after the second attack though.
The willpower you need to just lay there and take it while not knowing if youre already bleeding out or if the next excruciatingly painful bite or scratch will be the one that kills you, man, I just couldn't do that.
In dangerous moments like this, people act upon their instincts and combine it with adrenalin (you're more capable than you think). The most two common reactions are either panic and run (rest in pieces), or standing/lying still and hope it ignores you, or stop attacking you. Playing dead is a mechanic a lot of species use, even while a bear bites flesh out of you. In that event, it's a small chance you'll act by 'freewill', all you can do is hope that your brain acts 'correct' during that time. Rape victims has something similiar, being aggressive at the beginning but accepts their faith and hope for the best in the end; like an animalistic predator grabs the preys' throat by it's teeth, and the preys' only chance is to hope he lets go. Difficult to say if it's willpower or not, besides bleeding out etc is not something you probably think at that time, except; Where is the bear, will I die today, what do I do, help me. It takes time to realize what damage has been recieved during and even afterwards, because of the effect of shock, and the main focus is "where's the bear?". It's like when someone grabs you around the throat from the back, and you can't move, you don't care about the punches/kicks or the knife he's cutting you, you just have to get our of there and that's the only thing which is important according to your survival instinct. But this guy who fought the bear? Now that's willpower and fucking badass.
Bears are godless marauding killing machines.
What a fucking man, attacked by bear, calmly makes a video while talking about where he got mauled, I don't ever want to be in his situation but damn do I aspire to be as collected as this guy if it happened.
This guy has balls of fucking titanium. Wish I was as manly as him. I probably would've crapped myself and screamed like a bitch.
And this is why you carry in bear country. Good on him for having the will and endurance to get back home.
You need a good gun, though. You try to shoot a bear with a .22 and you're just going to piss it off even more.
A hot loaded, hard cast bullet 44mag is considered the baseline for Grizzly/Brown bear defense as far as handguns go. Bigger is better but it comes with added weight of the firearm. For rifles, it needs to be at least a hot loaded, heavy bullet 30-06. Same with the handguns in that bigger is better, but weight will become an issue when you hike.
If Florida Man was a villain in a comic, Montana Man would be the hero. (User was banned for this post ("Memeshit" - Big Dumb American))
