the only thing that saved me from being disappointed was the [sp]chestburster[/sp] at the end
So vaguely trying to piece it to have some connection to ancient alien/religious bullshit? I am pretty sure if you tried hard enough, you could find similarities and connections to anything you want.
Analyzing and explaining the massive amounts of symbolism in Prometheus still doesn't change the fact that it had a lot of plot holes and really felt like it needs a directors cut. I think a lot of people including myself expected it to have to same atmosphere and darkness that Alien had. Instead we get a giant alien tentacle monster.
I still can't get over that line where that dude's all like "do you have any evidence that the human race was engineered rather than a natural product of evolution"
and then she just says "no, but that's what I choose to believe"
sorry, prometheus was not a good film at all.
you can look as deep into the subtext and symbolism as you wish, but that won't change anything about how much the plot shambles, and how amazingly stupid the characters in the film are- for example, how Leonard from the Big Bang Theory pets a menacing-looking alien snake, despite being freaked out by a corpse that has been dead for god knows who long. and why would they send such wimps on a mission like this anyways? wouldnt they run psyche-tests?
And it's not even nitpickery either. all the terribleness of Damon Lindelof's script hits you as you are watching it.
a film should be appealing on the outside as well as the inside- like robocop! on the outside it's a great sci-fi action film with a simple plot and visceral action, and then, if you look a bit further, you notice all the important questions the film asks. and how robocop is a metaphor for jesus

Ridley Scott loves having long ass films that show everything, which is why the directors cut of any of his films are very long.
Interesting analysis until 15:00 where everything he makes up is complete and utter shit and terrible analysis
well gee it's a circle, um it's the higgs boson etc. etc
Fox edited out lots of necessary scenes.
For example there were 2 acid snakes, they edited out the scene with the friendly snake
Fox hates sci if I guess
I still dont understand why David put that black shit in the drink.
this movie is going to be a masterpiece after the next 20 years
you know it

Looking for something out of nothing.
Why do people keep making all kinds of retarded theories and not just wait for the next movie that will probably explain all this?

man i wish Max Payne was my english teacher too
I noticed some symbolism when I saw it, but it was still a bad film.
The one nice thing that I can say about this movie was that some of the scenes were wonderful in 3D.
The plot just made no goddam sense as I was watching it, and hours afterwards I was coming up with plot hole after plot hole that just made no sense within the movie's own context, let alone the greater context of the alien series as a whole.
This is even worse analysis of an already bad movie.

david actions were based on weyland orders.

I think it was supposed to be a science experiment.
Visually the movie is stunning, but outside of that I honestly feel "I could have done better", if it isn't my profession and I feel "I could have written a better script" then I know the movies fucked, because I don't think that highly of myself or am that arrogant to make a statement as such, but this movie is fucked. I hate watching films that treat me like I'm a stupid fat popcorn eating fuck when watching. I expected an intelligent film but instead got a LOST-esc load of trash thrown in my face (things pulled out of a hat that are never explored or get a conclusion or even explained - basically shit loads of setups but no payoffs).
Yeah it's true "not everything has to be explained", that does take the mystery out of somethings but when you're just making shit up as you go along it gets confusing for the audience. After looking up the writer it makes sense the writer of the film was the hack who made LOST. That TV show was an entire series of setups and no pay offs. He's a hack writer, everything he writes is a load of shit that dosn't make sense and he knows this. That's his genius, he knows that stupid people love trying to make sense of the nonsensical "have you seen LOST... it doesn't make sense!?!!". I consider him more of a magician than an actual writer, "what will I pull out of the hat next!?!? Another shiny object or a rabbit?!?". Stupid people make him a lot of money by spreading the noterity of his works by debating on internet forums like idoits whether they are bad films or Shakespeaian works of art. Oh no, what have I become, fuck you Damon.

"would you do anything to learn more about these alien dudes" - david the paranoid android
"yes of course" - naomi rapefaces boytoy
How can a movie be any better by having references to history and religious lore?
They should have just re-inserted the 40 minutes of deleted scenes back into the movie and called it a Director's Cut.
Oh, and Ridley Scott just directed the thing. That's why it looks and feels awesome, but has horrible script issues.

While that is true, he's still accountable.

Really depends on the author.
I can believe stuff like the bible verse being put in there, but overall I wouldn't say Prometheus was deep in any way. Blade Runner, on the other hand, is a treat.
I find it negative that there are 200 symbolic things in Prometheus. It seems like the writers focused only on that and neglected everything else that a script should have.
I'd rather have no symbolism but have a coherent plot and characters that aren't retarded.
I liked the film cause I didn't go in expecting it to be astonishingly good. On the other hand, I do tend to like crappy movies.
Only thing that bothered me was a fucking scientist that discovers shit that could lead up to why we exist(I know why we exist just for the movie speaking.) and goes all ape shit and touches everything.
