"Regarding the first debate, there were issues regarding Donald Trump's audio that affected the sound level in the debate hall," the commission said in a statement. No other details were immediately made available. Trump complained earlier in the week that his microphone wasn't functioning properly at Monday's debate. "And they also had, gave me a defective mic. Did you notice that? My mic was defective within the room," he told a group of reporters afterward. "No, but I wonder, was that on purpose? Was that on purpose? But I had a mic that wasn't worked properly, with, working properly within the room."
Well, yeah. I think people listening to the stream (Trump being Trump aside) could tell there were sound issues with his mic.
When I tuned in I could hear a horrible whining noise drowning out all reasonable discussion, so everything seemed fine to me
Sooooo... round two?
ya, his mike was left on during hillary's answers, they should fire the sound guy immediately. no i'm serious, cut his fucking mike between question when its not his turn to speak
"No, but I wonder, was that on purpose? Was that on purpose? But I had a mic that wasn't worked properly, with, working properly within the room."
Can he ever talk without this rambling repeating style?
Can he ever talk without this rambling repeating style?
It could be a legit speech impediment.
Yep, it was making his voice louder.
clearly didn't prevent him from talking though
It could be a legit speech impediment.
It could be a legit, could be a legit speech impediment, a great speech impediment, the best speech impediment he's ever seen.
It could be a legit, could be a legit speech impediment, a great speech impediment, the best speech impediment he's ever seen.
That could just be how he hides it, he has to say things over and over, just keeps repeating them, but he could use different words, synonyms, completely different phrasing every time he says it. Every time! It's less noticable, you don't even realize it. Granted, that kind of blurs the line on whether or not it's an "impediment" if that's true, but I never claimed anything more than "could be" so

It's really amazing when the most surprising thing trump can do is turn out to NOT be lying
I used to have a similar issue speaking when I was younger, then I got over it (but it wasn't nearly as bad, and I only mouthed the sentence afterwards, I didn't say it again)
I restart my sentences a lot but usually that's because I feel like I completely whiffed it on the first take and need to try a new way of saying it.
I mean, he was perfectly audible and very clear, though. Ah. It was transmitting to the television audience fine, but not the debate hall, apparently.
I noticed the issues, too, but they never had any impact on me understanding what he said, and I honestly I wouldn't be surprised if many people watching didn't notice.
All I noticed was bumps in volume here and there only to return to normal in a minute
Doesn't really mean anything since we could still hear him pretty much perfectly, so Trump's still being Trump by saying this was a massive factor.
Doesn't really mean anything since we could still hear him pretty much perfectly, so Trump's still being Trump by saying this was a massive factor.
Indeed. I think it's reflective of Trump's thinking that he assumes people must have declared him the loser of the debates because of sabotaged presentation, and not what his actual message was. He thinks style matters more than substance, and (like most people) thinks that most people think the way he does. So anything that weakens his style must be a much bigger factor than things like "his message fucking sucked".
You guys know that being biased isn't actually a good thing, right? Even if it's direct at someone like Donald Trump, all bias does is erode YOUR own personal judgment with anything about which you are biased, thus hindering your capacity for clear thought. I mean, you can be biased if you want to and be in the cool club of people who absolutely despise things and people, but at least admit that you're being biased. Maybe then people will stop being proud of ignorance. Isn't that one of the pillars of the left? Vanquish wilfull ignorance so as to do away with racism, bigotry, inequality, etc. Think being biased will accomplish that? You gotta be better than them.

Of course the microphone issues shouldn't have been there at all, but if you actually watched the debate, the impact was negligible. Donald is is just trying to fire up the "the mainstream media is trying to ruin me!"-shtick again. Like I won't say I'm not biased towards Trump, but if you think you can actually go around and be totally unbiased, I'm sorry but you're mistaken.
From the few Trump quotes I have read from newspapers on FP, he seems to repeat words 3 times. I thought it was a genuine discursive strategy: He put emphasis on a topic/theme/word, then it digs in the consciousness of the public, and finally the message is not easily forgotten, in this case "my mic was defective".

Legit though, this is a presidential debate and I think it's totally reasonable for a candidate to be upset about this, because the tiniest things can be treated as a huge deal in these situations. When previous candidates have been slammed in the post-debate coverage for such little details as sighing too much or taking too many notes, we can't deny the possibility that mic issues could conceivably throw a candidate off their focus and cause them to put in a worse performance. However, if Trump is going to say that this is why he lost the debate, I think that's taking it a bit far. The idea that Trump was so distracted by the audio problems that he couldn't help himself from blurting out lines like "that makes me smart" and "she deserved it and no one feels sorry for her" isn't particularly convincing. But if he's really going to position himself as a presidential candidate that can be defeated by a defective mic, then please proceed governor.
What was the problem with the defective mic?
Was the defective mic to blame for "not paying income taxes makes me smart" Trump can eat a dick nothing was missed
well we should already start recounting the votes for the election
It could be a legit speech impediment.
He didn't talk like that before.
Yes Trump, blame it on the mic that you lost the debate and not because you're a lying corrupt piece of shit.
How did anyone in it win then?
Straight up, I didn't hear any problems at all. Was watching the debate on PBS.
