Galaxy Nexus has a higher res screen and runs ICS with no flashing, the lack of hardware buttons is also pretty cool. However the camera is sub-par, as is battery life, the processor is the same speed as the one in the S2 and there's no microsd slot so the 16GB memory is your lot. It's also far more expensive than the S2. Basically if you want the best phone for showing off to your friends then the Nexus is the way to go but if you want to actually use it I'd go for the S2. I hear a homebrewed ICS port is in the works too and is progressing (slowly).
Personally, i would go with the Galaxy 2.
Shit, battery life and unexpandable memory? Pretend my vote for Nexus was for the S2
The s2 what an asshole design move on the nexus.

The device is essentially a slab with a screen on top, so the way I see it, the screen is probably the most important part of the phone and have the increased DPI and resolution is glorious for just about everything you do on the phone, from reading emails to browing the internet to playing games to using Maps Another notable thing I've found with my Galaxy Nexus is making phone calls. The phone is amazingly comfortable on my face, microphone and speaker are both great quality and the external loudspeaker is the best I've ever heard on a phone Also, I'm not sure about audio quality vs Galaxy S2, but I definitely noticed a difference from my Nexus One, so you're definitely not going to get bad sound playing media on the phone. On media, HD movies/TV shows look FANTASTIC, and is hard to describe just how amazing they look. I plan on flashing a new kernel to support external media, and keep a bunch of movies on my external HDD which is always in my bag anyway if I'm on a long trip and want to watch a movie somewhere (I was using the same setup before my Asus Transformer broke) Plus guaranteed updates straight from Google is gonna be sweet, and battery life is reportedly not that bad, I haven't had mine long enough to judge, but it got down to ~35% after 10 hours which included a lot of navigation, music playing and web browsing, and not always with great 3G reception And then there's also NFC support, which is likely so start rolling out over the next few months, and at the moment you can flash Google Wallet onto it and get a free 10bux
In my opinion, the Galaxy Nexus is OFC superior when it comes to technology. It is also google's latest baby, so it will get the latest updates straight ahead. BUT, and this is a big BUT: IT's too freaking huge. Seriously, I own a SGSII (after I got a HTC Desire) and that one is already huge! Well, it's thing but still huge. I would not recommend anyone to buy a phone even bigger (as the Galaxy Nexus is), since you run into trouble with your pocket soon.

Considering those, it is closer to the SGS2 than you think
Go for sg2 and put cyanogenmod on it XD so much faster than the galaxy nexus plus 8 mp camera, microsd (upto 64gb) plus its cheaper
Probably the S2, I own a Galaxy nexus and the battery life is shit. Even with all the roms and turning off GPS and 4G and ugh.
Wait for LTE and get the Galaxy Nexus.

I'm loving my Galaxy Nexus. Also, mine has 32GB of storage, I don't know why people are saying it only has 16GB.
GSM versions have 16 LTE has 32
I personally own a S2, and I'm loving it, But I think it's more down to your own opinion.
Since you have a GSM phone, only the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is available in the US right now. However, you can import the GSM version from Canada. You'd have to buy it unlocked, and it'd cost around $800. [editline]28th January 2012[/editline] I would prefer a Galaxy Nexus, but the SGS2 is way cheaper if you get it on a contract and don't want to switch to Verizon.
Here's a 32GB GSM one: http://www.expansys.com/google-galaxy-nexus-32gb-black-224348/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=base&ito=1701
