Without any fanfare, Netflix has announced a Castlevania series. Actually, “announced” is a strong word; sitting in the middle of a press release listing the streaming content company’s planned original programming for 2017 was a surprising reveal: “Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017.” The listing of the show was spotted by io9, and it is likely the previously rumored animated series by Adi Shankhar. Shankhar is teaming up with Frederator (of “Adventure Time” and “Bravest Warriors” fame) to make what he called a “super violent” series. Shankhar has been hinting at this series for some time now, though nothing has been officially confirmed. Putting two and two together, one can surmise that the series has finally found a home with Netflix, a company that has been known to scoop up all manner of intellectual property.
http://www.cbr.com/netflix-quietly-announces-castlevania-series-for-2017/
There aren’t any dang details about it but, at some point this year, we’ll get the chance to watch somebody from Castlevania’s Belmont family fighting bloodsuckers. Netflix has been holding an event today where it’s announcing the bulk of its upcoming programming slate. Nestled in the press release was this:
Castlevania Season 1, Part 1 Coming to Netflix in 2017
This is literally all we know for sure at the moment, but the project is likely the same one that’s been reported as being in development from Frederator Networks (Adventure Time) and producer Adi Shankar, who was behind that gritty Power Rangers short back in 2015. On an episode of the Nick Animation podcast late last year, Seibert said that Frederator was ramping up on an unnamed video game project. His words, as per Slashfilm transcription:
We have a project right now that we’re doing that needs to go unnamed, based on one of the most world-famous video games of the last 30 years, that we’ve had in our shop for 12 years without being able to get it started. But there were great characters and a great story, and eventually we got it going.

http://io9.gizmodo.com/netflix-has-announced-a-castlevania-tv-show-for-2017-1792131221
I'll remain cautiously optimistic. As long as it doesn't pull a Captain N on it, I suppose.
Hopefully it will be based on the reboot.
I can only hope. Half mass
well the Vampire Hunter D movies prove that the formula can work outside of games, since the castlevania series is very heavily inspired by D, so i'm optimistic

Superviolent, frederator, castlevania liking these words
Hopefully it will be based on the reboot.
Based on C3 Dracula's Curse if they're still rolling with the original idea for it.
Based on C3 Dracula's Curse if they're still rolling with the original idea for it.
Good. I'd rather have whippin he-man than anime
Does it have erotic violence, and pachinko?
Does it have erotic violence, and pachinko?
crying real tears.
As long as the other Paul Anderson has nothing to do with this adaptation anymore, we're good. That being said, I wonder if there really is enough material in the lore to warrant more than a really solid miniseries.
Kinda hope they go the way of the first three seasons of supernatural, isolated stories of hunting/killing some mythological monster with a light over arching story through out. Love to see a belmont go after medusa or something odd
I just want to see Alucard in a bigfuck castle fighting a floating ball made up of 10000 bodies.
Hopefully it will be based on the reboot.
Lmao why?
Kinda hope they go the way of the first three seasons of supernatural, isolated stories of hunting/killing some mythological monster with a light over arching story through out. Love to see a belmont go after medusa or something odd
Well Castlevania was always about fighting those old Hollywood monsters. Medusa, Frankenstein's Monster, you name it.
Lmao why?
Gotta get that gosh-durn anime out of my 98% Japanese franchise.
I just want to see Alucard in a bigfuck castle fighting a floating ball made up of 10000 bodies.
Alucard started out in Castlevania III, so we're going to see him. Assuming the series is still going to be based on III [editline]9th February 2017[/editline] My merge :(
I'm hoping for a "What is a man?!" throwaway line.
I'm hoping for a "What is a man?!" throwaway line.
the inevitable trailer fading to black at the end with that line spoken mmmmmmmmm
Give me a well done Shanoa and I'm happy. I have no hopes though. I trust Netflix to do their best, I don't trust Konami to not vomit in the punch bowl however.
Since it's dredd + adventure time people I started remembering this masterpiece [editline]10th February 2017[/editline] Also Adi Shankar worked on Voices which is a pretty funny and good film
So wait, this could actually be a pretty big deal to me as an animation fan. So like, he says it's going to be a 'super violent series', and Castlevania isn't a comedy...so is it going to be a western cartoon for adults that isn't a comedy? Because that would be fucking incredible and even a little groundbreaking. Also I love castlevania so, y'know, can't wait
I hope they take a more western approach to animation. I find a lot of anime'/ tend to be really cheesy.
Frederator (of “Adventure Time” and “Bravest Warriors” fame)
there goes any interest I had
there goes any interest I had
First of all, Adventure Time is a quality show, it had some weak episodes but overall it's a solid cartoon. Second, you do realize that the cartoon is being made under Frederator by a team that will not be Adventure Time's? If a cartoon is published under Hanna-Barbera it doesn't mean it gets made by the Scooby Doo team for example.
there goes any interest I had
what for [editline]10th February 2017[/editline] doesn't mean its gonna be like it. It at least confirms we probably aren't getting an anime
