the Silent Hill movie could have been a good adaptation if it just had competent writers. the set design and atmosphere were both especially great but then they just messed it up super hardcore with the plot (and the fact that it wasn't scary at all). i mean it LOOKED like the first game and they were fairly faithful to it initially so it's not like you can't do either of those things, you just need dudes who know how to actually tell a story and apparently no one in Hollywood wanted to do that.

Well if Neil Druckmann is doing the screenplay then at least the writing shouldn't be an issue. The make-or-break for this film is going to be the casting though, with the make up being a close second.

George Romero actually was in charge of a Resident Evil script.
His was very close to the game, except that Chris was going to be like Johnny Depp in Lone Ranger.
Many games have a huge cinematographic potential, it's a shame that basically no game-movie has achieved actually being great and faithful to the original so far.

Who you pick to write your screenplay only matters so much when the money people behind the project ultimately decide that Joel should be an unambiguously heroic and righteous character played by Marc Wahlberg who boldly sacrifices himself for Ellie, that the Fireflies are in charge of a massive conspiracy to control all the immunes in the world so that they have power over humanity's destiny, and that the movie should be stuffed with retarded biblical imagery to make it look smart.

It's a shame they handed it over to such a shit group though because TLOU is a perfectly filmable universe. The only difficulty would be to actually make clickers and bloaters look good which would require either very good CGI or very good makeup, but apart from that, it can be done.
But this is implying anyone actually good would touch the project which is apparently not the case.
