She also thinks the artwork is terrible and that I should have consulted her first. She suggested a picture of a beach instead. http://www.macantamusic.com/Releases.html You know what, to be honest, if my mum liked it I would be convinced it was shit. Can I just say thanks very much to everyone who has given me feedback. The negative feedback is just, if not more, important that the positive. My primary reason for posting this was to simply get feedback which I could use to make improvements. Facepunch, and you guys, have facilitated this. I will post more stuff for your scrutiny soon. The thread name is admittedly lacking in integrity, but to be honest since embarking on this Gaelic album it has been my experience that I've needed to be as creative as possible to entice people to listen to this language only spoken by scarcely 50,000 people. However, my mum does think it's shit, and no, I don't care that she does. That's her opinion and she's just as entitled to that as anyone else is. The title of the thread may have been disingenuous, but my intention and thanks are sincere: TAPADH LEIBH!
yeah quit.
OK...*gulps*
Not bad, maybe I would like it if it wasn't in china or whatever
I have no idea if you're serious or this is just a clever way to get people to listen to your stuff. (you might also want to stop signing your posts here since it's usually frowned upon)
please put your mom on the phone we need to have a word
I thought it was pretty cool, although I couldn't understand a single world that was being sung. Also your sound feels a bit too cluttered, sounds a bit too percussive.
Seriously that thread name is the dumbest thread name I've seen and it seems a little spammy anyway.

Today is the first day I've ever been on this site. Oh, honestly, my mum hates it and tells me this constantly.
Ignore your mum, if you think it's fun playing don't stop.

Yeah but you know what, it's one of the dumbest thread names I've ever seen as well, come to think of it. What a coincidence. [editline]2nd January 2012[/editline]
Its her opinion.
and trust me, I value her opinion...hence the post!

I personally thought your music is pretty cool. Only thing that bothers me is that the lyrics are really hard to understand. I can't even figure out what language it's in. :v: [editline]2nd January 2012[/editline]
sooooo is your mom single or...
Vedi you're p. funny at times, but now you're just trying too hard.

That's a good point, the language is Scottish Gaelic.
If you have to ask you should quit.
I think your music is pretty fantastic. Your mom is crazy.
Wow, out of all people to support you in your endeavours, your mom should be the #1 person. She's got things so wrong. I like the overall tone and style :) Don't listen to her or anyone who tells you otherwise, follow your dreams :)
If you have to ask you should quit.
Trust me, if Elvis Presley, Simon Cowell or Richard Branson had my mum you probably would never have heard of them. Thanks for the support though, appreciate it! [editline]2nd January 2012[/editline]
I think your music is pretty fantastic. Man, this is seriously rad. Gives me a Frank Turner-folkish vibe. Keep it up.
You seem so shy on this website and act like "oh is it good or not?" But you have a website and a channel. Seems like a clever way to get views. :/

I've spent the last two years writing songs in Gaelic and to be honest I genuinely have doubts as to whether it will work out or not. Sorry if I come across all coy, I'm not usually. It's just that I've been home for a few days and it's amazing how much you're family can knock your confidence.
It's actually pretty damn good, but it feels like it lacks something that makes it stand out and gives it personality.
It's actually pretty damn good, but it feels like it lacks something that makes it stand out and gives it personality.
That's the best comment so far as it gives me something to work with. One of my concerns with using the Gaelic language was that since people can't understand the words they need to get something else out of it. I will get my thinking cap on again...thanks
I really like it. Would it be possible to have some translated lyrics, so we at least have an idea what the song is about? It's very upbeat, though, and the vocalist has a good voice. In fact, everyone involved is pretty good. I particularly like the use of the strings, and the harp is a nice touch. The violin/viola solo (I'm not good with enough strings to tell them apart) around 2:00 is very tasteful, and how the song quiets immediately after, with the female vocals taking the lead around 2:28 is well done as well. The only things I could possibly comment on in regards to things to improve are, those female vocals at 2:28 are a bit quiet - I had to actually back the song up while writing this to see if I was actually hearing vocals or not. The percussion is questionable, too; the percussive element keeping the beat is a bit obnoxious. Not sure what you'd do about that. Very well done, though, overall. Hope to see some more from you guys. :D
Trust me, if Elvis Presley, Simon Cowell or Richard Branson had my mum you probably would never have heard of them.
Why should anyone care about your Mom and her opinion? Furthermore, establishing that your Mom is not capable of recognizing talent means that bringing up her opinion on the matter is completely pointless. It's like saying "this person literally hates everything, they hate my music, do you agree with them?". Like it's been stated, this is all just an annoying setup to fish for positive comments.

I think it has to be more clever than it currently is. If you check out the website you can get the lyrics etc: www.macantamusic.com It was a live recording which naturally has limitations, but at the end of the day is more honest. I might have a remix of it though and boost the female vocals though. Actually, I think one of the girls was singing a little off, and that's why I had to reduce the overall volume...I think... My brother suggested I should use this forum to get feedback. I should have done it a while ago. The music isn't bad, could be produced a little better so that sounds compliment each other. But it's not up to a few lame forum posters, it's up to you alone. I think you guys look happy, there's clearly different personalities within the group, and you may need a guide of sorts. Also your mother isn't nice.
What kind-of mother doesn't support her son? When he makes a beautifal song, does she have to be so quick to cast it to the side because she doesn't like it? The song is good, man. I like it alot. And most people would agree. It confuses me as to why your mother would straight out tell you she doesn't like it. And what the hell is wrong with the art? It's good. A beach is so fucking cliche.
Just seen the artwork. Yeah your mother needs a bit more "clear thought" about the type of music. Maybe she isn't even that interested in the first place.
