Only reason I can think of for including a single player mode is for new players to get accustomed to the game before heading to multiplayer.
Honestly, Single-Player is going to be boring and easy, but if it makes people more comfortable with playing online then I really could care less. Kinda takes a lot of the mystery of it away, being able to familiarize yourself with the map without having to take a risk and share the loot. Then again, most people use an online map (ok, ok, myself included) to find where all the loot spawns are, and read all the tips they can find, so its not really that big of a deal.
On the topic of DayZ, though, I must compliment their latest stable release. The Central Loot Economy is shaping up quite nicely, and it seems a lot more rare that you wander around finding fuckall for useful loot. Almost makes up for the last patch that seemed like an eternity, and the experimental being even worse at times.
Since the mods were also announced, this new SP mode is probably going to be more useful for the modders/server managers test their content before implementing it on the online servers.
