Taiwan’s pro-independence movement and the government hardly see eye to eye, but thanks to Chinese President Xi Jinping, both sides are singing the same tune: no to “one country, two systems.”
In remarks delivered at a meeting with pro-unification delegates from Taiwan on Friday, Mr. Xi said China took “a firm and unwavering stance” on reunification with Taiwan. He went on to say that the best way to resolve lingering animosity across the Taiwan Strait was to employ the “one country, two systems” framework that governs Beijing’s relationships with Hong Kong and Macau.

Or better yet: Give mainland China the same system used in Taiwan
That could have happened in real life if it wasn't for that damn Mao and the communists, imagine a democratic China that could have been.
Why'd you post two threads?
double post like a mofo
Yeah, so China can slowly rob the Taiwanese of their rights and freedoms while attempting to assimilate them to Beijing's way of rule entirely, just like they're doing in Hong Kong, right?
Good on them for telling Beijing to fuck off.
Woops shit, can a mod delete the other thread?

Although I personally support Taiwan, the nationalists had turned very fascisty very fast.

It's also important to note that Taiwan only became democratic after they fully developed. Until then, it was ruled with an iron fist. If the Nationalists ruled all of the mainland, development into first world status would have taken much longer and probably would not be finished to this day. Now I'm not saying the communists would give control to the people even if they were first world, but I'm saying that you can't really just say Nationalist China would be a great democratic place. It may have ended up like India where economic growth is very slow. The Chinese economic explosion only happened due to very specific circumstances.
You can choose the easy way now or the hard way later on, either way it seems that Taiwan's independence can only be maintained as long as the United States retains it's superpower status.

south korea was pretty shitty too for a long while
these asian countries that lost a large part of them to communists seemed to radicalize quite a bit

Starvation sure sounds like fun
Stick it to 'em Taiwan
Why'd you post two threads?
two threads, one story
on a more main note, i can't imagine anyone would ever agree to this, its literally selling your people into slavery
Good on them, "One country, two systems" is shit when the government is just going to end up under Beijing's pay like Hong Kong is right now.
Starvation sure sounds like fun
Are you forgetting the great leap forward? Cause it almost sounds like you're implying more people would starve under the KMT
Starvation sure sounds like fun
Do you even know the difference between communism and democracy?

The times of chiang kai-shek was fucking terrible, and he was a shit general as well. He's the reason why the nationalist lost China and fled to Taiwan.
Also, partially the reason for wanting to reunite is to fulfill the wishes of returning chiang kai-shek's body to China.
Don't get in bed with the PRC.
prepear ur anus taiwan

It's not like most of the world pretty much believes Taiwan is independent. While many countries officially say china owns all of it, they just do it to not make china unhappy.
YES, in yo face China.
You will not decide our future!
Now perhaps we have another five years.
Maybe Taiwan will reunify when China becomes democratic again
Like that'll happen tho

I can eventually see the body being returned without too much anger. There is certainly a change in feelings about the Generalissimo on the Mainland as a more positive force due to his fighting against Japan. Hell, China now is more like what Chiang wanted than what Mao wanted.

Eh, once all the economic growth starts to stop due to China getting through all the catch-up growth, I can imagine democracy slowly being introduced to China for the sake of the CCP's survival. Perhaps it will turn into a one party democracy like Singapore which nobody particularly seems to complain about?
Maybe Taiwan will reunify when China becomes democratic again

Not like reunification is really needed either. Taiwan is just fine being its own island.
Maybe Taiwan will reunify when China becomes democratic again

China's former Prime Minister said that it might happen 100 years down the line. But then I doubt anyone would care about reunification anymore.
And I'm gonna bet the world is gonna look a bit different 100 years from now :v:
Maybe Taiwan will reunify when China becomes democratic again

Taiwan has no reason to unify with China now, even if China becomes a true democracy.

Man you really are just dedicated as fuck to not even attempting to understand global politics. Do you ever think before you post or what?
They can be reunited.
Once the Communist filth has been eradicated from the mainland.
