Bill Gates Wants to Resurrect MS's 2nd Darkest Child: Microsoft Bob
Bill Gates thinks that Microsoft Bob, or at least the concept, will come back to life as intelligent personal agents become part of everyday computing. Microsoft Bob, introduced by Gates at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 1995, provided a virtual house with rooms and doors and cartoon character assistants to help users navigate Windows and perform tasks with Microsoft applications. For example, users could log in by clicking on a door knocker or launch the calendar application by clicking on a calendar hanging on a wall. (Read Harry McCracken's fine history of Microsoft Bob.)
Just please don't bring back ME.

They need the paperclip back in office so it can tell me what it looks like I'm writing.
I remember using this shit, was actually kinda cool back then for what it was.
Who in the hell is Bob ? Is he your average everyday office man or a Microsoft thing I haven't heard about ?

I kind of miss that jackass.
I loved Microsoft Bob when I was a kid. Me and my sister made crazy big houses with secret entrances to different rooms and stuff. It was pretty cool.

i have been looking for this ever since I can remember holy shit thank YOU
bill gates may be a genius but he should be kept as far away as possible from UI design
let's dumb down computer interfaces instead of teaching people how to operate and (to an extent) troubleshoot and service their devices
I think Bob pretty much lives within the new start screen, live tiles tell you your email count, the date, the time just about everything you could want

using a computer shouldn't require you having to be a nerd
Great, so I can sit in my house and use the computer while I sit in my house and use my computer.
This bitch better have Oculus Rift support
Please...
Don't bring back the hell spawn that caused Comic Sans MS to be exist...
Please.

It should also not require a condescending anthropomorphized dog to help you open your facebook account.
I'm not saying they have to know how to handle registry changes but I get asked the dumbest questions sometimes and this would only make it worse

If you read the whole article I'm pretty sure he's just saying that when MS does their inevitable answer to Siri, it may be called MS Bob as a jokey tribute
Not that he even gets to decide these things anymore

simplifying interfaces doesn't imply having to use that concept in particular. case in point: win8 metro

I love the 90s style of Bob. Something about it seems so "cozy" in a way.

I don't know about you but I'd rather keep the inept and lazy off the Internet.

I always get a warm fuzzy feeling when I see screenshots of 90s programs.
