Alright Facepunch. Two weeks ago I volunteered for a safety program in the State of North Carolina, the program is dedicated to teaching young students railroad safety. In short, I want a video that is extremely Unique to present to my class that will actually teach them something. Basically what you will do is submit a video that you produced (It can contain youtube videos of train's hitting car's, and tips of railroad safety and so forth.) It needs to have slides stating facts. (IE, Percentages, what to do and not to do in certain situations, and basic laws) The judges will simply be my class. I am passing out a sheet in which the students will grade each video they see, and the one with the highest ratings will receive a prize of; 30 US Dollars for me. The video needs to be atleast 2-3 minutes long, can contain No music, or audio at all. http://oli.org/ is the organization I volunteered for. I have classes over a week period for student drivers. What you get out of this: A chance at 30 Dollars, you can feel good about yourself because you may have prevented future deaths. Also I am an actual student myself, only a couple years older than the people I am presenting to, so any tips are welcomed. Rules - 30 Dollars to the winner the day after tomorrow - The class will be the judge - Must include statistics and facts/tips in the video - No Music - No Audio - If only one person enters then that one person gets the money, because they will be the winner obviously - Must be School-Worthy and not include shock images, vulgar language, and/or profanity, etcetra-common knowledge. Oh and uhh, if no videos are entered I'm going to be boring my class out with a power point presentation the entire period-So you are helping them out a lot.
How the hell can you possibly be stupid enough to unintentionally kill yourself on railroad tracks? Really, I can't think of anything past standing there trying to look cool.
People do dumb things when they are with their friends, they get energetic, or simply people void any sort of railroad warnings. It can even range to safety tips when your car stalls out; For instance you need to dial the number on the crossbuck, set your car in neutral, attempt to start it, run towards the direction the train is coming from, etcetra. Also older citizens have been proven to have less awareness about it, percentages have been taken on this.
i'm scared to death about getting stuck in the things that come down when a train comes at a railroad
How the hell can you possibly be stupid enough to unintentionally kill yourself on railroad tracks? Luckily the local subway drivers know this and they go very slowly after games.

How the Hell can they not understand the true power and energy that's behind a full locomotive train. It's easily comparable to a mosquito (car) getting smacked in the windshield on a car (in this case, train) moving 60 mph. 1/2(m)(v)^2
Make it like that german workplace safety shock video.

People don't understand that trains can come out of nowhere, which is where we get the expression: Every time is train time.
How the hell can you possibly be stupid enough to unintentionally kill yourself on railroad tracks?
I know someone who got drunk, walked home, and passed out on some railroad tracks. He got woken up be the train's siren and moved like a minute before it would have crushed him. So, yeah, I could see someone accidentally getting offed by a train.
It isn't whether you can comprehend what a train can do to you. Also I just wanted to add the deadline is tomorrow. [editline]17th May 2011[/editline]
No, trains generally don't come out of nowhere Their movement is constrained to extremely narrow corridors of land
The size of the train and shape generates an illusion that it is moving slower than it truly is.
Fuck trains. Where is our teleportation Obama?!
Anyways, to contribute to the thread I will post the following. KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. If you're presenting to like 13-16 year old students, it's pretty damn easy to make them laugh. If you show funny instances of vehicles being struck by a train going at high speeds, they're going to be amused. If you're just trying to win the money, there is really no point in making it too educational, just put in a bunch of cool wrecks.
Exactly, but also include facts after each clip possibly. One of the ideas a student came up with one time was to do one of the shock videos saying something like; -Railroad crossings and ignorance are the cause of thousands of deaths per year... - Insert fact one here after a clip - insert more facts after more clips, -At the end; Will you be one of the many to die in this type of disaster?... That is always open for use.. [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] Oh and I'll also add prize money will be sent out to the winner after tomorrow. So if you are the only one to submit a video you actually have a one hundred percent chance of winning. Which is sad considering the amount of effort I've put into presentation and print-offs and the such..
The size of the train and shape generates an illusion that it is moving slower than it truly is.
The speed of movement doesn't matter At any given time you are literally a 45-degree head movement away from being able to see if you're standing somewhere that trains might be
The speed of movement doesn't matter At any given time you are literally a 45-degree head movement away from being able to see if you're standing somewhere that trains might be
what if im looking 90 degrees up [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] at the plane that just narrowly missed my head because im standing on a runway?
The speed of movement doesn't matter At any given time you are literally a 45-degree head movement away from being able to see if you're standing somewhere that trains might be
But if I'm in the car I'll only be looking at my belly button.
Take clips from source code when the train explodes and be like "this is what happends when freight is misshandled"
what if im looking 90 degrees up [editline]17th May 2011[/editline] at the plane that just narrowly missed my head because im standing on a runway?
if there are train tracks and/or a train on the runway then god help us all
Here are some professional safety videos for reference.
Why can't you do it yourself?
Hey I think I found a contender for you OP http://blip.tv/file/4356935
Try this:
pretty short notice...
There are adverts all the time in the UK warning about level crossings and not to cross them when a train is coming. If only there was some sort of deterrent to stop people doing it. Like big flashing lights, loud sirens and a large stripy metal fence coming down over the track.
Why can't you do it yourself?
I don't HAVE to do it, and like I said, this is sort of a 'Fun' competition. Submissions will still be accepted until 12 AM EST time.

2 Hours left to enter.. No entrees?... Really? This is a free 30 dollars basically..
Oh fuck guys I just realized I'm sitting on tracks as I type this...I hope a train isn't due today.
Show the "Super 8" teaser trailer as example of a train crash. Just edit out all the "movie" parts like the titles and fades. Bonus: show the clip of the truck being destroyed at the crossing from the movie "Unstoppable".
I think the focus should always be on road safety; where things can come from more than two directions and not seen for miles beforehand
