So I recently got a new job in data entry, and it's a pretty sweet gig. On my first day I was trained with this other older woman (probably in her 40s) who seemed none too bright in the first place. So a part of our training was the following :
The system scans the form we're inputting and recognizes whatever letters it can, if it can't recognize a letter, it'll replace it with a block. When you're correcting the system it works like this :
(Let's say the word is Facepunch and the system picked up Fa?epu?ch)
Whatever you type will fill the first block, and then you proceed to the next block. Pressing delete will eliminate the block, pressing backspace will clear the characters before the block, and pressing alt+backspace will clear the characters in front of the block.
So, if you type "c" and then "n" you would get the correct word.
If you backspace, you would get "a?epu?ch"
and If you alt+backspace you would get "Fa?pu?ch"
She couldn't get it through her head the first eight hour training session.
And when the trainer realized I'm not a retard, he focused exclusively on her problem with the blocks during the second day of training. It took her 5 hours to get a basic grip on it.
Now she sits near me and I have to help her with her stupid problems "Which folder do I click?", "Oh I made the screen upside-down", "How do I do chat?", "It says the program is already running WHAT DO I DO?"
She says she's been working with computer for 29 years.

Working with computer and understanding them are two different things. Why don't YOU try to help her and understand she's just a straight up noob. Since you make yourself seem so knowledgeable you should surely understand that it's not easy just learning all you can do, although it does get progressively easier/harder depending on what you do.
Get a disease and be asbsent from work for a few days, hope someone noticed she either fucked up their systems, or that she didn't do anything.

Some people just don't get computers man. I gave a computer to my father-in-law 3 years ago. It was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. The only thing he contacts my wife and I for is computer related issues and they're the simplest things, he should understand basic concepts like how to download a file by now. I've explained to him how to burn a CD 5 times. All he does is spend time on the computer, morning 'til night, you think he'd learn a thing or two, or explore a little on his own by now.
The other day he messages me on MSN saying he "lost his Firefox". I told him he probably just deleted the shortcut from the desktop (I knew I had already lost him at this point), so just open the start menu and search for it from there, then drag the icon back to the desktop. Pretty simple, right? No, he messages me back later saying "I think I asked the wrong thing in Limewire." I don't know what asked means, and I don't know why Limewire was involved at all. He calls my wife up in a panic, I can hear him yelling into the phone from across the room because he lost his Firefox. My god.
