The billionaire reality TV mogul came out in front of a crowd of partially paid supporters to Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” (and while riding down on an escalator, no less). Beyond the fact that the song is actually a critique of Republican George H. W. Bush’s presidency and the social policies that lead to income inequality, Trump’s use of the song was inappropriate because Young never gave him permission. Young said in a statement that Trump “was not authorized to use ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ in his presidential candidacy announcement.” The statement added that, “Neil Young, a Canadian citizen, is a supporter of Bernie Sanders for President of the United States of America.”
Source
I misread that as "sues Donald trump" :v:
Born in the USA is also terribly misunderstood and misused like this song, and similar strikes have come against it. With songs like those two though everyone just grabs on to the seemingly patriotic and uplifting message, completely missing the overbearing satire somehow. Born in the USA is actually pretty depressing if you understand the true message
Occasionally you hear commercials use the first line of Fortunate Son to look patriotic.
Fortunate Son is far from patriotic
Fortunate Son is far from patriotic
that's the point he was making
How can you not understand it, it's blatant as hell it's not like he was trying to hide it lmao It's just that nobody bothers to actually listen to the other lyrics.
idk people sing along to brown sugar by the rolling stones all the time and I'm pretty sure a good number of them would be horrified if they even attempted to process what they were singing :v: most people just seem to tune out lyrics completely as just part of the rhythm
Hell, the Alleluja song is not at all religious but religious choirs sing it all the time, no wonder people like to take things out of context or simply avoid the true meaning
Just like america fuck yeah is satire but everybody plays it anytime the us does something right
Just like america fuck yeah is satire but everybody plays it anytime the us does something right
reappropriation god bless usa #1
We got a thousand points of light for the homeless man we got a kinder, gentler machine gun hand You know, this doesn't seem very patriotic.
It is funny that people don't seem to really listen to the lyrics. I mean hell, some radio stations still play "Pearl Necklace". :v: (it has nothing to do with pearls or jewelry)
Just like america fuck yeah is satire but everybody plays it anytime the us does something right
Pretty sure that one is used in that satirical 'murrica tone it is written in when people post or use it.
Just like america fuck yeah is satire but everybody plays it anytime the us does something right
So is Yankee doodle. Hm. I'm seeing a pattern here. We appear to be unrivaled at taking songs intending to satirize but instead we miss the point and adopt them with open arms. Master level trolling.

Amazing how that sort of thing can get glossed over so easily.

Kinda goes to show that Americans by and large don't pay any fucking attention to anything. Would explain a lot about this country.
Just like america fuck yeah is satire but everybody plays it anytime the us does something right
most of the time I feel people do it to take the piss and joke around in a non serious way some of the time they are... serious... yep
Kinda goes to show that Americans by and large don't pay any fucking attention to anything. Would explain a lot about this country.
We stopped paying attention to anything in the 1990's. Society are gone, we're the only super power left so we don't have to prove anything to anyone. Time to rest on our laurels.
