The other day i ordered my MX518 for £23 ($46) Today it arrived and it worked straight out of the box. I installed the driver utilities and they are great. I can set any of the buttons to do what i want, including keyboard shortcuts. The mouse glides well across my Insert-your-own-picture mouse mat and is really comfy to hold. The mouse also has EXCELLENT tracking at anything under 1700DPI. So, some pictures (resized so that they aren't 3x my screen resolution :v: ): I would recommend this mouse to anyone considering getting a new mouse. The + and - buttons adjust the sensitivity, and despite how it looks, you will never press them by accident. There is also a task switching button, which you will also not presss by accident, and may come in useful for some people (all of the buttons can be binded to other things though). The < and > buttons on the left, i have binded to forward and back in firefox (Alt+rightArrow, Alt+leftArrow). The mouse is really comfy as you can probably see in the third picture. So yeah. Good mouse, especially considering it's half the price of a G5 which looks pretty damn close to identical to it. Also, i have pretty large hands, and it still fits well. I can imagine it fitting a small hand well too.
I was thinking about getting that but I got OEM Sidewinder instead since it was 1$ cheaper, but not that much better. I suggest getting a real mousepad, a cheap cloth one.
I've had one before, but i don't like the way they are raised, i can push down pretty hard sometimes, and the sponge slows down the mouse.
I have very thin one, so I don't have that problem. But I'm just saying that mouse that good is bottlenecked by a bad mousepad. My u1tr4 133t fr4g skills went up after switching from AUSTRALIA - KANGAROOS mousepad to a nice ultimat. Buy a teflon coated steel mousepad, I bet you can't plunge that down :v:
Looks like someone hit it with a wrench :v: Nice mouse. I know many that love it.
Hell yes.
That looks like it doesn't hold your thumb or little finger very well... Though it does look slightly like some jet fighter control.
That looks like it doesn't hold your thumb or little finger very well... I'll stick to my Razer Copperhead. Logitech messed up when they stopped thinking about left handed users, just for starters. (Not that I'm left handed.)
I too own own an MX518, and have so for almost 3 years :uhoh: (just realised) Hasn't failed me yet. However you should note that the drivers (Setpoint, not really drivers) are absolute rubbish-useless shit, and it tracks at 1600dpi, I'm gonna assume it's a typo on your behalf. But yeah it's probably the best value for money mouse you can buy at the moment, comfortable (for righties), decent performance (who even needs 1600dpi? Mines constantly set on 400-800 anyway), durable and looks cool without having lights and shit all over it.

I didn't realise Logitech released a new MX518, my mistake. I have the old one ;)
I only have the MX500 D:, i think it's made for web browsing or something.
Awesome. Didn't realise how similar these mice were (G5 and this). I'd definitely have gone for this had I known.
Awesome. Didn't realise how similar these mice were (G5 and this). I have both and prefer my G5, mainly because it can track on anything.
You forgot to mention tracking distance from the surface - about 3 mm. I have both the G5 and the MX518. I prefer the MX518, mainly because the G5 tracks up to 5 cm from the surface.
I have had this mouse for for about 3 months now, and it still is awesome.

I love this mouse, but be forwarned, that logitech logo will fade away. Mine's gone completely, it's just a gray circle now.

I don't like how it looks dented.
I don't like how it looks dented.
I agree, what's with all that design with flames, dents, and girls in bikinis or men in stereoids. I want blocky but ergonomic, plain design.
I don't like how it looks dented.
It doesn't in real life. Well it does, but you can see it's a hologram and it looks pretty rad.
It doesn't in real life. Well it does, but you can see it's a hologram and it looks pretty rad.
Yeah you don't notice it when using it.
I love this mouse, but be forwarned, that logitech logo will fade away. Mine's gone completely, it's just a gray circle now.
On my newer model it actually sticks out of the plastic (though you can't feel it while you're holding it)
I had a MX500 before, but I had to buy a mouse that works with my left hand due to back problems. I loved it tough also, bought a Razer diamondback 3g :4chan:
My bro has that mouse and sometimes when I'm reformatting or something else that is time consuming involving my computer, I'll sometimes swoosh onto his and I press the task switching button quite a bit in the middle of a game. That button annoys the hell out of me. Though, I'd probably get use to it after a while.
I hate all the fucking scroll wheels that Logitech used for the G5 and the MX518. In gaming, I use scrolling a lot, especially clicking on the scroll wheel. There's some fucking glitch where it becomes very sensitive and touching the scroll wheel lightly makes it go batshit insane and scroll like 5 times. To fix, you have to click on the scroll wheel hard and scroll down hard as hell. It's so fucking annoying. I bought a G5 in hopes that this will be fixed. Now I have two problems. First, the G5 (blue one) scroll wheel clicking takes major effort. The scroll wheel doesn't click very easily. Also, the stupid scrolling glitch is still there, but not as apparent. Fuck, how do they not catch this shit during testing?
