What happened to NO MULTIPLAYER? We promised we would make Don’t Starve the best single player game that we could. To us, this meant using the resources that we had allocated to Don’t Starve and keeping them focused on delivering on that promise. We were not willing to sacrifice our goals for the game to work on a multiplayer version. This was the point we tried to get across in our our original decision.

So, what is Don’t Starve Together? Don’t Starve Together is a multiplayer expansion for Don’t Starve allowing friends or complete strangers to survive together, in either public or private games. As far as we know, it will have most of (if not all) the normal features in Don’t Starve, balanced for multiplayer, and potentially even add new features.

How many players can play together? We’ll see. We believe that Don’t Starve Together will support 2-4 players simultaneously. Could be more, but we are aiming for 4 minimum.

Alright… Now we’re talking! How much is it going to cost? Don’t Starve Together will be a free expansion for all current owners of Steam / Standalone. Thank you for supporting us! With the addition of multiplayer, the price of Don’t Starve will go up to $19.99 USD around the time Alpha becomes available.

When is it coming out? We are aiming to let you get your hands on it late this summer; beyond that, we don’t know the specifics yet. That could change, but we are pretty confident that we will be able to get things together for you by then. We don’t have a solid roadmap yet, but it’s safe to say that we will likely have an early alpha before going to Steam Early Access beta, just like we did with Don’t Starve and the Reign of Giants expansion. Seriously awesome news. 2014 is a fucking fantastic year for vidja games.
Oh fuck YES
HNNNNNNNNNNG
Whoo!
This is literally the only thing that makes the game a truly great thing : co-op survival
Never played DS, but it always seemed a fun little game to me. This is very nice news!
Holy fuck yes, wanted this ever since it got released
I never asked for it but always felt it would be awesome LET IT BE LATE SUMMER ALREADY
Oh shit yes. This will probably get me to return to the game.
YES.I AM SO EXCITED I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS SHIT. oh don't starve you are growing up so fast
2014 gud
but what about the ps4 version?
WHAT?!? YES!!
plot twist: only for ps4 edition
i thought he said it would ruin the atmosphere or something???
I'd play the shit out of it I remember playing it when it was just released, I thought I'd return when more content is added but I didn't. But this will make me return for sure.
plot twist: only for ps4 edition

What platforms will Don’t Starve Together be available on? Similar to everything we’ve done with Don’t Starve, it will begin on Steam / Standalone. Beyond that, it’s too early to tell.
Now I can take on the boss enemies with my friends and we can get the floor wiped with us simultaneously!
Oh my, I've been dreaming with that for quite a while now. All my yes!
I think one of the biggest flaws of Don't Starve was that your efforts felt pointless and like they'd forever go unseen, which is a problem a lot of light-storied singleplayer survival games have. Hopefully this will fix that problem. Besides, it looks like the sort of game that'd be a blast to play with friends.
They were so adamant that it would never become a multiplayer game because it would ruin the atmosphere and would require them to rewrite the code. I wonder what caused them to change their mind. My guess is massive public demand.
Next step, find a friend and make a "live" Wilson/Willow fanfic. :v:

Whilst they've retconned their own decision against NO MULTIPLAYER and decided to go for it... I have mixed feelings. I was proud of them for sticking to their guns and being adamant about developing the game as it was intended, to be a harsh singelplayer Survival game. That enabled them to focus on gameplay elements and refine the game within its own boundaries quite nicely. Its a much easier job as opposed to 'balancing' and refining something that is both singleplayer AND multiplayer, such as Starcraft 2. With SC2, thats why they developed the use of 'Dependencies' which are effectively sub-sets of the same game, so that they can change one without it affecting the other. Its a lot of work. Too much for a small company like Klei. Im disappointed that they're adding Multiplayer on that side of things, but at the same time, I can understand why. They're a company. They are a business. Entertainment (Video Games) are a form of industry. The non-stop constant demand and outcry for Multiplayer since the games first beginnings were a clear indication of an untapped market. There is profit and more sales to be had if they cater the product, the game, to more clients, via Multiplayer. Its a logical reasoning and process. I guess its just the void between 'Art' and 'Product' that people argue about in relation to games. I loved Dont Starve for what it was previously - an artistic creation and vivid expression of various peoples creative talent in a video game format. But at the same time, they need money to live, its a marketable product and the industry itself is a very competitive place. So... good on them I guess. It doesnt detract from the game at all. Its still awesome. I've just mixed feelings about it.

Never too many good co-op games. Seems they are becoming rarer as things get more "next-gen".
Don't Starve became repetitive after the first month. This will bring it back for another month, nothing special.
Don't Starve became repetitive after the first month. This will bring it back for another month, nothing special.
So you were able to play a game for an entire month before it became repetitive, and that's not special?
