Remember App Ops? Back in Jelly Bean 4.3, the feature could be accessed by resourceful users to switch on or off permissions for individual apps. By KitKat 4.4.2, the feature was completely hidden from users. Google's explanation was that App Ops was never meant for public consumption - it was devised for internal debugging only. But users had gotten a taste of granular app permission controls and wanted more.
After some rumblings earlier this month, we've seen information suggesting that - with Android M - that wish may be fulfilled after all.
note: it's not confirmed yet but Android Police is a solid source for stuff like this and doesn't fuck around with baseless rumours
Stay tuned I guess

And Yes, I think the countdown is ugly too
I've been wanting this forever. Glad to see it.
[sp]now let me fucking disable pop-up notifications[/sp]
Lockscreen notifications, and lesser fragmentation amongst carriers and OEMs would be nicer too.
They're announcing Android M yet only 9.7% of Android users are on Lollipop.
Hopefully Android M will contain less memory leaks, when Lollipop came around you'd get memory leak for just turning off the screen, shit was ridiculous.
About time, iOS permissions are wonderful. Also the fact I can restrict apps to not use mobile data has saved me so much on my monthly quota

Already in Lollipop?

You can actually already do that - restrict background data in settings. You can do it on a per-app basis.
Already in Lollipop?
that's what I though too

Have been on android for ages--there's even an option to block sensitive content and such.
(At least, I' use HTC sense.. believe it's there since HTC Sense 2.2)
You can actually already do that - restrict background data in settings. You can do it on a per-app basis.
Yeah was more meaning on a per-app basis, but I never stumbled upon a convenient setting
There are many things Android could pick up from iOS, but I think the competition and rivalry sorta slow things down.
i hope for a day when them shitty redirect adverts nolonger effect android

still only on KitKat.
still only on KitKat.
So you're asking for shit that's already in the system
And it's not really google's job to ask people to update their images for their devices
i hope for a day when them shitty redirect adverts nolonger effect android
that would require basically destroying any sort of intent feature
i've never understood why people give a shit about permissions
people install software on windows all the time, and it can do whatever it wants without showing what
why are phones different?

Because that's a terrible, outdated model with big privacy issues and should be changed.
Default-deny is always the best for security and privacy, instead of the current all-or-nothing default permit system currently in place which leaves you with essentially no control.

Idk about you but my phone contains more sensitive information than my laptop or PC does
SMS, Call logs, GPS location/data, access to my camera roll etc. is stuff I don't grant so easily to a lot of apps unless they've got a good reason
On Android when I was using appops, I noticed a lot of permissions that were being granted when the app didn't need it, like reading my call log or SMS's. And idek about you but how fun would it be having a rogue app track your every step, I know I wouldn't be too happy
So phone permissions matter

Because catching a spying/info stealing app on a phone is much harder than on pc.
I'd update but Verizon has this fucking fetish for locking shit down harder than a maximum security prison with every update so if I want to be able to root my phone and subsequently the ability to use my fucking external hdd with my phone I have to stay on 4.3.
This sounds great, but I really need to get a new phone.
[sp]Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo sucks fucking dick.[/sp]
The overly flat Material design bothers me something fierce, So I hope there's a easy way to reskin it all.
Honeycomb/ICS had it almost right with the dark theme and slightly detailed design, though the default blue 'hint' also annoyed me.

:)
nope was just unaware
and it's not really my job to have to scour xda of all places to find a decent rom
i mean i am currently looking at getting a new phone to replace my current piece of shit before you ask, but all i'm really asking now is that google should force a little more standardisation and/or further options for a 'clean' android experience on devices sold by OEMs and carriers.
assuming that you're on a flagship, you obviously don't have to deal with having a typical 'lagdroid'
Yeah was more meaning on a per-app basis, but I never stumbled upon a convenient setting
It is on a per app basis

"Open source"
Google can't really enforce shit when it comes to AOSP. One of the downsides of allowing Android onto any platform or phone is there's no quality control. If you want something comparable to iOS, which is a completely locked down platform and has the advantage in this aspect, you need a flagship phone or a phone known to be good.

Because most Windows devices don't have a GPS chip or wi-fi in them and a bunch of them are stationary.
Plus if an app's doing shit in the background when it shouldn't, control+shift+escape to Task Manager and murder it.
Does android offer full encryption yet? I know Samsung have their stupid Knox software that's been a bit dodgy.

This has been available for quite a while
But it's the closest you'll get without modification
