I've thought of starting to excercise Parkour.
At the moment of typing I don't really have the muscles to go NEAR any kind of sport, but we have a mini gym in our basement, and the city I live in have good places to exercise outside.
Both me and my parents have said I need something do do during the days instead of just stay inside in front of the PC/TV.
As far as I got it, the three most important parts about parkour is:
1. Muscles, mostly arms. Legs are recommended.
2. Balance. If you don't have good balance, you're gonna fall.
3. If you're gonna parkour you need to observe everything around you.
A good excercise I read about is that you make a goal, that is a certain distance from you and has certain obstacles. You need to find a quick way to get there, by crossing the obstacles, and not go around them.
So my question is if Parkour would be something good to do during my spare-time?
Yes. It'll improve your strength, stamina, agility, mental abilties and self-confidence.
And provided you don't make a foul-up, it looks kick ass.
Muscles mean shit all in Parkour to be honest, it's all about agility
Yes it's a lot of fun
Good luck, like.
The only thing that's actually stopping you is your guts.
I mean, do you have the balls to jump over that ledge while having a decent chance of faceplanting on the other end or fucking up?
I say yes.

Muscles is important.
Hey, you can't do parkour tricks if you can't even pull yourself up a ledge.

I am freakishly thin and weak but I can very easily pull myself onto a ledge

Can you pull yourself up a 2 - 3 metre ledge?
Or climb walls/buildings that far?
I am not thin and I can't pull myself up
:saddowns:
Try it, it look awesome.

Hit the gym.
To be honest it would be the best possible workout as well as a hobby because it involves reactions and every movement is dynamic since urban environments are irregular
I do it myself, and it's a great workout, but you need decent agility and strength to get started, and you have to get over the fear of getting hurt, because chances are that will happen. If you can deal with that, have fun.
There's other ways of building up muscle without risking injury, I'd like to think.

That's not the point of doing Parkour

Hire a professional trainer.

lol no. You should take some aikido lessons if you want to learn how to roll properly. After 1 term you will know how to roll perfectly without any risk of damaging your back or neck whatsoever. If you don't know a place that trains out aikido I have no clue what could help you roll properly. I went there for 2 terms before it got boring. Of course you'll also need to be flexible, Taekwondo is perfect for increasing your felxibility and balance, and is very useful if you're going to do parkour. You can't expect to just go out and be able to do whatever you want, and if you fit the description, you could end up seriously hurting yourself. If you really wanna do parkour, you should train for a year. If you give up, parkour was never for you anyway

enjoy feeling like a retard afterwards because you couldn't jump properly or because your cardio sucks or because you couldn't pull yourself up a ledge.
My friends are into this big time, they can scale pretty fucking big walls, all I can do is climb high-ish walls and vault fences and walls.
Work on fitness, core muscles. You need to be able to run for a loong time.

I'm not after the super-big stuff.
More like getting over smaller obstacles to get to places quicker, like jumping over ledges, climbing ledges, maybe run across a roof or two. Nothing big, really.
Okay, MAYBE I crossed the line with the roof-thing.

eventually you're gonna want more

Well, then I will do more excercises, go to gym etcetera to clear my goals!
One step at a time, my friend.
To me, Parkour tricks look a bit tacky
I'd rather do free-running
But that's just me I guess

I'm not your friend, and you're a moron.
If I were to practice parkour, I'd just use it to get by stuff faster, as in no ledge slowing me down, fluid movement while running and shits like that.

No, you're an internet tough guy
To me, people who do Parkour look a bit dumb when they do their "tricks"
I'd rather start free-running, less tricks and more practical
But that's just me I guess
You're backwards.
You're backwards.
Rephrased it to fit my thoughts better

There's a difference? I just thought Parkour was a nicer name for Free-running...
