“[These are] the sort of people who, for example, might want to watch a movie. They might want to go to Disneyland. Their attitude is, ‘okay, I am the customer. You are supposed to entertain me.’ It’s kind of a passive attitude they’re taking, and to me it’s kind of a pathetic thing. They do not know how interesting it is if you move one step further and try to challenge yourself [with more advanced games]. “In the days of DS and Wii, Nintendo tried its best to expand the gaming population. Fortunately, because of the spread of smart devices, people take games for granted now. It’s a good thing for us, because we do not have to worry about making games something that are relevant to general people’s daily lives.”
http://mynintendonews.com/2014/08/27/miyamoto-says-nintendo-is-focused-on-core-rather-than-casual-gaming-market-now/
More Metroid games please.
Less Other M please.
Less Other M please.
What was wrong with that game?
I feel somewhat relieved knowing that he realizes this.
What was wrong with that game?
The baby
What was wrong with that game?
Gameplay wise, it was new and refreshing for the Metroid series. Other M though had a really fucking stupid story, and it angered a lot of their die hard fans. I would love to see more games in the Prime series; or do ala Mario with the new series and do a 2.5D Metroid game.
What was wrong with that game?
Someone else can probably say it better then me, but they removed a lot of Samus's character and made her constantly be saved by this guy she used to serve under in the military. It comes off as sexist and even if you disagree with that, it's still stupid. There are more problems, but that's the most major one I've heard.
Also, in my personal opinion; I don't care what your first party devs do Miyamoto, if you make the games fun and interesting, I will buy no matter who the audience is for. Even for the rehash games, make more improvements with the franchises like Super Mario 3D World and you have my dollar. Just stop doing games like NSMB - god damn we need to let that franchise go for now.
That's right, come crawling back. What? Found out that casual gamers are fickle and have the attention span of a retarded goldfish? My my, if only someone other than every core gamer out there could have predicted such a mishap. Here is a blanket, you can tell us alllll about it while you get back To making real games, bitch. Edit: is joke. Who can seriously hate Nintendo?
It's just not going to work for me. I mean call me an asshole, fine, I know people will definitely disagree with me and everything I'm going to say, but I gave up on Nintendo after N64 and I've never looked back. There was a time where I liked smash brothers, mario kart, metroid, zelda, etc. but those times feel far away from me right now. Maybe I'm just an old grump but they're much too cartoonish, much too G rated, much too boring as hell to the current me. For better or worse, too, when I think of "Nintendo console" I no longer thing of things like GoldenEye, Killer Instinct, or any of those heavyweight independent titles - I only think of Mario and his stupid fucking buddies (read: lack of showcase titles that demonstrate graphical superiority) along with a bunch of peripherals I'll never use. Nintendo is great at scaring away IP that isn't their own, and the IP that comes from them isn't appealing to me whatsoever. Now Nintendo is in a deadly vicious cycle of "Not enough IP to keep our system popular for hardcore gamers, as a result IP holders are disregarding our consoles altogether" and it starts all over again. The only thing that would make me turn this all around would alienate hardcore Nintendo fans - and what I mean by that is tuning the mario, link, DK and smash bros shit way, way down and working extremely hard to make their console developer friendly and to make it content agnostic. Meaning showcase the damn gore and family unfriendly titles. I like those. Basically fire a bunch of people and reboot Nintendo consoles by making them a platform for any type of game from any type of developer, and make it less of a product to showcase of the latest Mii/Mario/Zelda/DK/Smash etc. I feel like Nintendo is unwilling to do that, and I feel like they're probably going to go the route of SEGA if shit keeps up. I can't decide whether that would be a good thing or a bad thing. I'm sort of okay with it. Other consoles get all those fun family friendly titles, it's no longer exclusive to Nintendo consoles because they will no longer exist, and people won't be spending more money just to play those games (because let's face it, what can any nintendo console really do that others can't? I suspect a lot of nintendo fanboys have multiple consoles anyway - and what about PC? Smash brothers on PC would be pretty cool). Of course there will be some people who only like Nintendo consoles and titles who will be pissed about it.

Full HD remake of Metroid Prime 1, 2, 3 and Hunters for WiiU please.
What was wrong with that game?
Imagine what the general consensus of Samus' personality is. Yknow, a hardened bounty hunter orphan raised by aliens and has seen a lot of shit. Now take that, flush it down the toilet, and replace it with sexist wankbait.
Gameplay wise, it was new and refreshing for the Metroid series.
Metroid: Other M's gameplay was terrible. Shooting was autoaim, using missiles was IMPOSSIBLY awkward (probably the only thing in a Nintendo game with worse controls than Kid Icarus: Uprising) and the dodge system. Dear God the dodge system. EVERY FIGHT consisted of mashing the D-Pad and waiting for an attack to dodge, which you would dodge instantly and immediately charge your beam because D-Pad mashing makes you fucking invincible in every situation except 2 specific bosses. The game is in 3D and played on a fucking Wiimote on its side. Also the game is full of invisible walls and boring areas, and instead of being controlled by the abilities you gain, where you can go is controlled by arbitrary locked doors. And I haven't even gotten started on the segments of the game where your movement becomes gimped for no reason and Samus slowly marches around like she has a broom up her ass, or worse, the FUCKING "Where's Waldo" segments where the gameplay stops and you're locked in place in first person until you focus on a tiny "clue" long enough, and one of these is notorious enough that you're likely to spend 20 minutes before giving up and checking an FAQ because it's so fucking oblique. Did I mention at the end of the final boss fight you have to use an ability you never had up to that point, you aren't told you have, you don't know the controls for, and you die in like 2 seconds if you don't do it? Other M is a travesty in every way, not just in story and characterization. [editline]28th August 2014[/editline]
Imagine what the general consensus of Samus' personality is. There's a scene where she encounters Ridley (which she has defeated two to five times by now depending on whether you consider Prime games canon) and she pussies out so hardcore she has to be rescued by another male character and almost gets them killed in the process.

And THEN a man saves her. She spends the rest of the game either monologuing to herself about how much she misses the baby metroid, or following around her abusing former commander and constantly seeking his approval like a battered puppy. It's pathetic. Other M did pretty terribly in the sales department, and a lot of people like to say it's the reason Nintendo hasn't put out a new Metroid game at all for either the 3DS or Wii U despite overwhelming demand from core gamers.

They should probably just put that bit in at the start as an apology for the nonsense that occurred when they had Team Ninja do it. And yes, that waking up from the TV remote thing, followed by that quip, was from The Venture Bros. (A Very Venture Christmas, to be precise)

That's what made me hate it more than anything else when I played it.
A-frickin'-men. It'd be one hell of a way to say "Other M is non-canon, and we are sorry for our failure. *bow*".
More Metroid games please.
i've been hoping for a 2.5D Metroid game for ever now. imagine a new metroid much like super but much bigger and prettier. a new real metroid game has been needed for so long
Fucking hell, I'm probably one of the only people who liked Other M when it first came out, though that was probably only because it was my first Metroid game and I didn't know much about the series or about Samus outside of the Super Smash Bros. series. It wasn't until I got to Ridley that I finally questioned it, because, I might not know much about the series, but I did know that Samus fought Ridley multiple times, and she should have been about fight without hesitation, not chicken out of the fight.
Third person Metroid/Mario shooter/platformer please... Mario Prime
