Kiev, Ukraine (CNN) -- Embattled Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych insisted in an interview aired on Ukrainian TV Saturday that he is not resigning and not leaving the country. Around the same time, an opposition leader and former Prime Minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, was freed from prison. Ukraine's Parliament voted unanimously to remove Yanukovych from office. It's not clear if this is binding. The Parliament also voted to hold new elections on May 25, a key opposition demand. Yanukovych recorded his defiant statement in Kharkiv, a pro-Russian stronghold in the eastern part of Ukraine. He said he would continue to work to stop the bloodshed and prevent further division within the country.
http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/22/world/europe/ukraine-protests/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Maybe he seriously thinks that he's some kind of Julius Caesar out to try and get his entitlements back.
He can say it all he wants. A legally elected parliament impeached him. It's over.
Rumours says that the Crimea region might actually try to split from the rest of Ukraine. Apparently some pro-Yanukovych politicians has claimed that they won't take orders from Kiev anymore. Also, here's a bonus video of widespread destruction of Lenin statues.
Apparently some pro-Yanukovych politicians has claimed that they won't take orders from Kiev anymore.
Well boys, it's time to follow the example of our captain and let the ship go down with all hands.
Soon he'll start yelling about usurpers. And then someone will have to take down the mad king.
And now apparently he fled to Russia. Russian source: http://lenta.ru/news/2014/02/22/away/
I'm curious how our local Anti-Radicals will defend Yanuk now.
Article 111. The President of Ukraine may be removed from the office by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in compliance with a procedure of impeachment if he commits treason or other crime. The issue of the removal of the President of Ukraine from the office in compliance with a procedure of impeachment shall be initiated by the majority of the constitutional membership of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shall establish a special ad hoc investigating commission, composed of special prosecutor and special investigators to conduct an investigation. The conclusions and proposals of the ad hoc investigating commission shall be considered at the meeting of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. On the ground of evidence, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine shall, by at least two-thirds of its constitutional membership, adopt a decision to bring charges against the President of Ukraine. The decision on the removal of the President of Ukraine from the office in compliance with the procedure of impeachment shall be adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine by at least three-quarters of its constitutional membership upon a review of the case by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, and receipt of its opinion on the observance of the constitutional procedure of investigation and consideration of the case of impeachment, and upon a receipt of the opinion of the Supreme Court of Ukraine to the effect that the acts, of which the President of Ukraine is accused, contain elements of treason or other crime.
Apparently, Rada has only just voted for the initiation of the issue of impeachment, so he still is a president ATM.
I'm a bit confused here - why are there so many Lenin statues left? Why weren't they all toppled back in 1991?
In 90s governments must've had some more pressing matters than rooting out some statues.
Armed police shooting stick wielding protestors isn't a war its just murder.
What about protesters throwing molotovs and rocks at police armed with sticks and shields though.
What about protesters throwing molotovs and rocks at police armed with sticks and shields though.
yawmwen said molotovs don't hurt duh
Yes look at all the rocks and molotovs getting thrown in that video Thank god they took out that guy with the stretcher think of the damage he could have done with that.
Does this excuse of a reply mean I can post a video from before February 20 and claim non of the following police violence ever happened? Or is it just you terribly missing the point?
Both sides have killed people. Lets not go through this again.
yawmwen said molotovs don't hurt duh
Yeah, obviously, it's just alcohol or w/e, the liquid burns out, everything else is unharmed. Oh no automerge broken.
He said as Team Rocket was blasting off again.
And now apparently he fled to Russia. Russian source: http://lenta.ru/news/2014/02/22/away/
No shit he's fleeing Ukraine. Motherfucker tried to get the army to start gunning people down. I consider the now-interim-Minister-of-Defense to be a fucking hero.
No shit he's fleeing Ukraine. Motherfucker tried to get the army to start gunning people down. They're not big on checking out the info.
Good on them. Tear all of them down. All of them. I hope they turn them into asphalt.
Lenin was just as mad as Stalin. The only difference was he died before he could really get the ball rolling.
I wonder if stalker 2 can be developed now, because the studio wasn't doing it because of corruption
Take it with a pinch of salt, lenta.ru references certain Ukrainian sources, and some of those claimed he fled quite a few times already. Just a rumor, though.
