okay, so We just got Mobile broadband, instead of normal. It's ping is over 150, and normal's ping is under 30. Both have almost the same download/upload speeds.
(8mb download, 1mb up)
Im a fan of multiplayer games such as Gmod, CSS, TF2, blah, blah, blah.
Can i ever play any shooter/fps games the same way again?
be honest.
Yes, im 16, my parents got this. its on 2 week try. How can i get them to return to the normal broadband? suggestions?
Expect some lag, but it REALLY depends on the connection speed.
Shit in their socks.
I use mobile broadband and it's fine.
Mobile broadband is pretty terrible for gaming, it's usually only intended for very light browsing (£10 for 1GB per month on T-Mobile's 3G USB stick).
I'd try to get your parents to understand how detrimental it is to online games. You might also mention that they have worse fair usage/bandwidth policies than regular broadband, and also that it's rather more expensive. Hopefully they'll see how bad it is and switch back.
In my opinion a ping between 150 and 200 isn't too bad in TF2 at least, but in many games it's really horrible.
We are saving 400€ A year using a mobile broadband... they really dont wanna switch it back just because i want to :/
How can you save money by using 3G instead of normal broadband?

By seeing "unlimited" and not the 3gb cap small print. You can use 3 gigs in a day of heavy media streaming easily.
I'm using mobile broadband everyday as my base doesn't have plugs or wifi. It's okay when you've got HSDPA connection which I can play WoW fairly easy off. I tried bad company 2 but I got kicked for high ping. I'm getting a new dongle and an external antenna for it, I'll post results later.
Torrent the fuck out of the connection until you get angry letters from the ISP/Telco saying you have to go up to a more expensive package, then do it again for good measure.

This, except just upload a bunch so that the connection will seem to suck, to them.
Woops, and -snip-
Wow, that's faster than my wired internet. :frown:

I can't get any faster internet where I live. It's really depressing, even my classmates living in tiny little villages get better speed than me and I live in a huge city.

Finland doesn't have those dumbass download caps that you Americans have.

Can i play, say, garrysmod on this?
Note the ping. i had 15 last on normal broadband.[/QUOTE]
I have a mobile broadband too, here's my results

I can play games normally (including Gmod), except when its raining (clouds mess up the reception).

Americans don't have those dumbass download caps that you assumed we do for some reason?
All of the popular providers in America give you unlimited bandwidth. Canada and Australia are terrible when it comes to caps though.

My phone which I typically tether from when needed. Same concept as mobile broadband.

Yes, I assumed American's are the ones with the caps because of the greedy corporations slowly taking over the country.

Depends who you go with, etc.
certAin Telephone corporaTions provide caps, while most others do not.
Oh nevermind my speed. we were currently having the normal broadband.

It's terrible if you're used to 30 ping.
