"Russia is the only country in the world that is realistically capable of turning the United States into radioactive ash," television presenter Dmitry Kiselyov said on his weekly current affairs show. Behind him was a backdrop of a mushroom cloud following a nuclear blast. Kiselyov was named by President Vladimir Putin in December as the head of a new state news agency whose task will be to portray Russia in the best possible light. His remarks took a propaganda war over events in Ukraine to a new level as tensions rise in the East-West standoff over Crimea, a southern Ukrainian region which is now in Russian forces' hands and voted on Sunday on union with Russia. Russian television showed images of ethnic Russians in Crimea dancing, singing and celebrating the referendum but followed them with accusations that Kiev's new authorities and the West have allowed ultra-nationalists to attack Russian-speakers in eastern Ukraine. Kiev and the West blame the violence in eastern Ukraine on pro-Russian groups and say the Crimea referendum is illegitimate. The United States has warned of imminent sanctions against Moscow. OUTSPOKEN COMMENTS Kiselyov is an outspoken defender of Putin and once caused outrage by saying the organs of homosexuals should not be used in transplants. His show portrayed the Ukrainian authorities as unable to maintain law and order. Putin made a similar charge in a telephone conversation with U.S. President Barack Obama on Sunday. Such remarks have caused concern in Kiev that Moscow might send troops to eastern Ukraine, acting on a vote in Russian parliament allowing him to use the armed forces if compatriots are deemed in need of protection in Ukraine. As the crisis escalated, the news in Russia has taken on shades of Soviet-era propaganda, with reporters peppering reports with references to what they say was the cooperation of some Ukrainians with the Nazis in World War Two. There is also now growing menace in some of the reports, as well as echoes of the Cold War. Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev gifted Crimea to Ukraine in 1954, when Ukraine and Russia were both parts of the Soviet Union. Many people in Crimea hope union with Russia will bring better living conditions and make them citizens of a country capable of asserting itself on the world stage. Others see the referendum as a land grab by the Kremlin as Ukraine's new rulers try to move the country towards the European Union and away from Russia's sway.
http://in.reuters.com/article/2014/03/17/ukraine-crisis-russia-kiselyov-idINDEEA2G01G20140317 Funny how putin appointed him head of the news agency. How far will this crimean rabbit hole go?
The rabbit hole will extend eighteen feet deep and then branch off in different directions, always coming back to the source from backtracking. In the end it remains America and the wests fault to them as usual, despite Russia being the aggressor.
Well combined we can turn the world into radioactive ash  Definitely portraying Russia in the best possible light.
I'd say this is infinitely more worrying and stupid than his stance on gay rights
Doesn't make it any less relevant because he made international headlines for his previous remarks on gays; and now he's making more remarks on a different subject. Also included pic to help remember who it is
I'd respond by saying the US can turn Russia into a barren wasteland unsuitable for human life, but that would be redundant.* *I know there are beautiful areas of Russia. It was a joke.
Aye that's cool, thankfully most of the western world now has a missile shield capable of stopping the majority of those warheads, and then Russia gets literally wiped off the face of the face of the earth. Let's not forget the part where they'd then be trapped in a toe to toe slugfest with NATO and US, who excel in conventional warfare.
I wish I could take Russia seriously, but their leadership acts akin to generic movie villain schlock
I wonder if this would inspire a new 7.62mm or Jagged Alliance.
I was hoping we would finally demilitarize and cut back on the military Not gonna happen now with these ass clowns

We should be working together, damnit. Not threatening to blow one another to smithereens. I don't want nuclear or conventional war. I want these douchebags to shove off so that we can get biological immortality and AI waifus.
And then every U.S allied country would turn Russia into radioactive ash. Mutually Assured Destruction.
And then every U.S allied country would turn Russia into radioactive ash. Mutually Assured Destruction.
We have another name for that; it's called Fallout. :v:

It might be able to catch some lone, lost rocket launched from Korea, but if Russia went all out nuclear apocalypse, very few warheads would get shot down and the losses everywhere, including mainland USA, would be unprecedented.
You would think 6 million deaths WW2 left in its wake would dissuade everyone from waging war again. But nah, man, human nature and lust for power.
I agree 100%, we should definitely be working together now for the betterment of mankind but Russia is pretty much permanently 200 years behind everyone in terms of society.
It isn't just Russia. And it isn't all of Russia. There are plenty of people in Russia with a good head on their shoulders that want the same thing.
"Russia capable of turning U.S. into radioactive ash"
Right back atcha, cuntflap. Come get us, we're waiting. Getting really sick of this skillet-faced gray-skinned pricks.
You would think 6 million deaths WW2 left in its wake would dissuade everyone from waging war again. But nah, man, human nature and lust for power.
Remember, one death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic!
You would think 6 million deaths WW2 left in its wake would dissuade everyone from waging war again. But nah, man, human nature and lust for power.
6 Million? Nah, try 21.8-28 MILLION for the USSR and Bloc countries ALONE. And 48 million overall.
6 Million? Nah, try 21.8-28 MILLION for the USSR and Bloc countries ALONE. And 48 million overall.
They was only six million deaths inna second wold wah. Only Sixty gorrilian. Oy vey.
Are they correct, though? How many nukes do they have?
Eleven.
Are they correct, though? How many nukes do they have?
They're kind of correct. Both Russia and the US have mutually-assured destruction programs going on. If Russia nukes the US then the whole world is fucked [t]http://www.ploughshares.org/sites/default/files/images/World-Nuke-Graph-with-Info-111413.png[/t] Nuke counts

"Kiselyov was named by President Vladimir Putin in December as the head of a new state news agency whose task will be to portray Russia in the best possible light." I suppose threatening-nonthreatening the idea of a nuclear apocalypse is the best thing for Russia's image? I know things there are shitty, but holy hell.
Imo, the only reason this guy is running his mouth is to give anti-Western Russians a sense of security. I would highly doubt there's much true meaning or potential behind his words.
