They both suck. EDIT One is just over fucking bloated, the other is... need I say? EDIT We took our best thinking from Mac OS X and brought it to the iPhone. Then we took our best thinking from the iPhone and brought it to iPad. And now we’re bringing it all back to the Mac with our eighth major release of the 'world’s most advanced operating system.' Mac OS X Lion arrives in summer 2011. Here’s a sneak peek at just a few of its features. Fuck you apple, god I hate you. Seriously, look at this homo shit: http://www.apple.com/macosx/lion/ "FULL SCREEN APPS" HOLY SHIT WINDOWS HAS HAD THAT GANGSTA SHIT SINCE 95
Apple has been ripping off linux distro's and trying to claim unix features as their own for years.
Well Mac OSX is just FreeBSD with a shiny UI
One shouldn't be a desktop OS; the other is for people who don't understand the first statement
I feel like you're trying to make a point, yet I don't see it. Companies do this all the time, it's not new. And the creators, whomever they might be, should be flattered that their creation was so good that others are trying it themselves.
There's no point here. It's just cool observation.
Oh.
I dont get how the launch pad is justified as a feature, its an icon that starts one program then minimises the rest ??!?!?!?! :effort:
You're missing the point of Lion. These are mainly features being brought from Apple's iPad and devices to their home computers. None of these are really rip-offs. Oh please, a dumb and a disagree? Do I have to go through it all? Multitouch - Apple's phones and iPad have always had this and it's always been one of their big selling points App Store - Apple's App Store? This should be obvious. Ubuntu's Software Center only recently came out. Launchpad - Like before, iOS had this. Ubuntu's Unity is, just like Software Center, a feature that's only recently been released. Mission Control - Just an updated Exposé that works for all windows and stuff. It's very different. Seems like everyone's on the Apple Hatewagon.
i don't like how they add like 3 new features then charge 150$ for it.
i don't like how they add like 3 new features then charge 150$ for it.
They haven't said what the full feature list will be yet so I would at least try to hold back judgement until then. Though if it turns out being like snow leopard again... judge freely :derp:
Atleast we can just ignore Apple.
Wow, Lion is a step backwards, trying to be part iOS, which is an irritating OS to begin with.
Although, in their defense if they're looking to buy sony, etc with all the money from their iDevices, it seems like a logical step to recreate that environment on the mac aswell... to our disappointment
Wow, Lion is a step backwards, trying to be part iOS, which is an irritating OS to begin with.
If it goes that way, i'll just stick with Snow leopard and get a cheaper laptop in 5 years when i change.
Buy Sony? what are you, Insane!?
It's still a rumour. Or is there any updates on that?
And yet I'd rather use OS X than waste my time with Linux.
hey man, ur all stupid cuz os x was teh first one to came up with teh idea notice how ubuntu doesnt havea dock but os x does? plus os x have existed much longer than ubuntu so ur all wrong :downs: ^An actual comment I heard.
...and we could say linux steals from Apple and Microsoft steals from linux and Apple steals from Microsoft and in the end it all boils down to everybody stealing from everybody. It's been like this since the Alto. Get over it.
I'd rather use windows. I can have all the same fancy useless apps that ubuntu and osx has by downloading a program or two
The same could be said about android copying apple with the app store. /sarcasm
It's still a rumour. Or is there any updates on that?
there's also rumors about Facebook... but sony is a giant that dwarfs Apple. that's not ever going to happen. Good laugh though. [editline]26th October 2010[/editline]
I'd rather use windows. I can have all the same fancy useless apps that ubuntu and osx has by downloading a program or two
I don't wanna use Windows when i have to clean it up for everyone all the time. It's by far the fastest system to become bloated and disobedient in the hands of normal people and it's pissing me off. Most laptops sold today come with so much bloatware... it's astronomical. At least Mac doesn't come with that and at least Ubuntu is a free alternative that enables me to format these bloated laptops. (am cleaning one now for my sister... the hard way, i want her to be able to play her games.). Inb4 "it won't be bloated if you know your shit" well, no shit Sherlock. but 90% of computer users know jackshit about them. If the manufacturers would stop installing their spamware, i might reconsider but at the moment i'm far to pissed. But that's just my opinion and experiences. It's worth a mention that there's no problems when you just go barebones Windows without the bloatware from resellers, manufacturers and god knows who and we all know this. Nothing better than a fresh shiny install. But we do not have a win 7 copy around.
Well Mac OSX is just FreeBSD with a shiny UI
MacOS is based on Darwin, based on BSD (not FreeBSD), based on Unix.
Microsoft stole it's UI from Xerox, this has been going on FOREVER.
It's Linux's fault I'm too stupid to use Linux. Hurr
Fixed that post for you there buddy.
Everyone who rated the OP agree is ignorant as fuck, and probably know shit about the history of Apple's software. One example here, mission control, is a consolidation of previous features, such as Exposé. That was released back on 24th October 2003. And Spaces, a current OS X feature is much more similar to what Mission control's being compared to.
Fixed that post for you there buddy.
Haha, epic shit right there. In all seriousness, you can use every system there is and do the same stuff on them all if you take the time to understand them. And they're all equally simple when it comes down to it.
Don't forget: Ubuntu 11.04 (2011) and Mac OS X Lion (presumably also 2011) Windows 3.1 (1992)

The unix-like file hiearchy is a lot simpler, cleaner and in some cases more secure. Windows: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts Unix-like: /etc/hosts Now tell me that the windows one makes sense and is easy to isolate.
